Looks like my left tie rod end is shot. I'm going to replace both ends. The drag link is OK so I'll leave that until I do the 4" lift. King pins are still tight.

Are the rod ends from NAPA okay or has anyone had any bad/ good experiences with any particular brand?

Jay

The NAPA ends are good. I have used parts from there for many years. I have not had any problems with front end parts.

I just did mine last weekend,

I used Moog ( i think is the spelling) tie rod ends, from Oreilly just cause they were open at the time. Napa closes at like 6pm which is just to early.

Part number ES2010L for left thread, ES2010R for right thread, but this is on my 1ton. Something like $46 a piece, little much I thought.

Also make sure to clean and lube the split in the tie rod before you pull the ends I had one get alittle buggered up, and nobody I talked to had a left hand tap big enough to clean it up:{

Did mime about 3 months ago. I think I used Napa's. Anyway, make sure you put the grease nipples facing towards the back of the truck, otherwise road $#!t is going to get into them. That's the only reason the ones on there failed to soon. The guy (read: moron) who I bought the truck from had the nipples facing forward for ease of greasing.

Moog front end parts seem to have the best reputation. My NAPA told me their front end parts are made by Moog. Went though this a while back when I replaced my drag link. Don't forget to ask if they have a lifetime warranty on the tie rod ends. ;)

Ha ha!

I just came from getting the rod ends at NAPA. On the sales counter was a placemat with cutaway NAPA & Moog rod ends and tie rods side by side showing how much better the NAPA parts are. :rolleyes:

Time will tell... ...

Thanks for the replies.
