You should replace the pitman arm because it has a different bend in it that lines up the drag link better. Some guys keep the stock one but it puts the tierod joint in a bind so it will wear prematurely. The part #52122362X is the entire kit including the pitman arm and a after market steering stabilizer. Go to Mopar Supercenter - Not Your Average Discount Parts Store! and enter the above part # and it should come up.

Thx for the reply ouch I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money ..... I would love to go that route but do to money issues I may have to just replace what is bad with the Moog replacement

The New style geometry is better and beefier, but Non-grease-able Joints:mad::mad:

Those Non-grease-able factory Joints (End) = replacement xxxx miles $$$

The new kit I recieved does not have grease zerks. I'm still debating whether I'm going to drill and install them or just leave them be. One of the main reasons I like the set up is you have a solid tierod instead of the Y link setup. With the Y link every time the suspension cycles up and down your tires actually move in and out which can cause extra tire wear. Also when the joints on the Y link start to wear along with the track bar you get more death wobble. Dodge had the Y link setup when they introduced the Ram in 94 which we had and every time things wore a little it was a scary ride. Next we got a 99 which they went back to the solid tierod setup and we now have 185K on the truck with the stock track bar, factory tierods with no problems. I don't know why they keep trying the Y link setup then changing a few years later back to the solid tierod. I don't know if the new setup will last forever but the peace of mind in avoiding the death wobble is worth the extra coin. Just to let you know I'm installing the new kit on my 06 3500 dually with 79K. I can't keep from eating my front tires no matter the alignments I've had done and for now my balljoints are all good and tight. These are just my experiences so yours may differ. What ever you decide replacement or upgrade I'm sure it will improve any problems.

Well,I do not post on here much. Just use it for finding out info which has saved me alot of money over the years. But i can tell you this. In august I had the dodge steering update kit everyone has been bragging about how much beefier it is. When i had it installed on my 04 3500 dually at 161,000 miles I thought the same thing. I had got the recall notice and they replaced the pitman arm. This past saturday in my driveway I was backing my enclosed trailer up on the flat lot and my driverside tie rod end BROKE!!!Thank GOD I was not going down the road. The truck does not go off road. The tie rods only have 19,000 miles on since being put on. My small stock stuff had 161,000 miles on. So now I'm wondering did I screw up with the update kit!So just to let everyone know bigger is not always better. Now I'm leary of the set up if it will let go again at highway speeds!Has anyone else had this happen with this new steering kit? Thanks

Choppy

Late last summer I went to Dodge with my 04. 5 with a wandering problem. I did not drive down the Road I had to herd it along. At 52k they replaced a tie rod and when I went back at 91K they wanted to replace all with a new upgraded kit. I went with the new tie rod kit and a new steering gear box. The new tie rods are really beefy compared to the old ones. The truck really handles well on the road now.

Broken Tierod End

extrachoppy,

I just had my driver's side tierod end shear off just like yours did. My truck is an 07 WITH the upgrade kit on it. Was maneuvering my camp trailer in the driveway when "tink", end sheared off and tierod was hanging on ground. Dodge doesn't sell the individual components if you run it as your normal model year. you have to get the part ran as an '09 truck and it will show the individual upgrade kit parts. I'm still dealing with Dodge customer service. I believe it was an obviously defective part.

I was towing my trailer at 75mph five minutes earlier. If it would have broken then it would have been disasterous.

Do you have the part# that was installed on your truck? Mine's an '07 that developed dw with the stock steering. I had part# 52122362AE installed along with the new pitman arm. I'm wondering if anybody out there has had this part# fail? Spooky.

That problem is the reason for the h-46 recall. I have yet to see the failure reoccur after the AE kit or newer. I have seen many on the early #,but ALL have been in paking manuevers.

I'd just had the H-46 recall done on my truck. They replaced the drag link on the recall but no other parts. I've been told by them that one had nothing to do with the other.

Bob,

Didn't mean for that to sound rude. If you haven't seen a new one fail you can say you've heard of one now. I checked today and verified that it has the right pitman arm on it. All of the upgrades had all been done before the end sheared off. I'm hoping that it was a defective end and not an ongoing problem. It's a little unnerving thinking about it happening again.
