Timbrens question

For those that have installed Timbrens to help with the load of a trailer, what is your spacing between the bottom of the rubber cylinder and the top of the axle?



I installed a set on my 2500CTD and only had about 3/8" so it made the unloaded ride rougher. The nice folks at Timbren sent me another pair that allowed 1" of clearance but still seems I could use a little more space unloaded and then have contact made with the axle when I hook my 5th wheel up.



What do you think?

The clearance remaining after Timbren installation depends largely on the condition of your rear springs. Often, by the time an owner of a Gen III Ram decides he needs Timbrens, his rear springs have sagged and don't support the tongue or kingpin weight of the trailer he pulls.

Gen III rear leaf springs are longer than Gen II and selected to provide a soft ride when empty. They quickly sag under heavy trailers.

Your cure may be rearching or replacing your rear leaf springs or adding a leaf or leaves to each.

As per my original question, want to tell me what your spacings is so I too can love them??



Also, I've had a spring shop check out the condition of my springs and they said there has been minimal change in them. No need to repair or replace.

The originals they sent were probably 3/8" to 1/2"



The replacements they sent were probably between 1" and 1 1/8"



I have the heaviest Monroe shocks I could buy for my 2-wheel drive dually, empty, unless on a very rough road the Timbrens never make contact



When I hook to any of my goosenecks empty the timbrens usually lightly touch and can be a little rough, when loaded they are great



our 08' megacab 4x4 dually has airbags with the on board air pump



personally I prefer the Timbrens. I think they are the best bang for the buck $$$

Visual inspection. I have no idea if there is any way to objectively evaluate a spring's change from new condition but it would be very useful.

I'm thinking that 1" to 1 1/8" would totally get me away from the axle unloaded. Before the Timbrens my truck would squat 2" when I hooked up to the 5th wheel trailer. I was fine with that and put the Timbrens on with the objective of just taking the load off the springs after they dropped that far, in other words preventing them from flexing much more.

My thoughts exactly, I've had Timbrens on the last 5 CTD's I've owned, I don't haul as heavy as I used to but I'm ready if I want to.



After using the timbrens a few time they will stay squished a little shorter and your gap will widen just a little bit, maybe an 1/8 in total but the gap will widen just a little with the first few uses
