Where to have guages installed

Anyone driving from Nevada to Texas in the near future??

I've got a stock height 4x4 with a 2" leveling kit on the front. Going to be pulling a 5er and suspect that the pin weight is going to make the truck squat nose high (5er doesn't get delivered for a couple of weeks).

Was looking into either Timbrens or Ride Rite air shocks (bags). I'm wondering if the Timbrens would keep the truck level, or just add support once it already squats. The Ride Rites should bring the rear back up to level, but I'd rather not have to deal with the air if I don't have to.

Any opinions on which solution will work and/or is better?

I considered both, but went with the Timbrens and am happy with them. I haul a 4 horse living quarters trailer (13,000 gross max) and I was getting brights flashed at me before I got level. Daily driving it's like they're not there, with the trailer it's like they're not there and I'm level. Cheap and no air to mess with.

That said, it'd be cool (and $$) to have air bags, compressor, tank, leveling capability... Just not as practical for me.

LaxCummins,

Do you have a leveling kit on your truck, or does your truck sit tail high empty? When you load up, do the Timbrens allow some squat to the rear?

I've got an '04 with the snow plow prep - so I think it sits fairly even. If I removed the rear spacers I could probably squat more - which is what I don't want... . The Timbrens only "engage" when the rear compresses about an inch, so some minor squat. No more brights flashing...

I have the Timbrens also and am please with them. They do not keep the truck level under load but they do limit the squat quite a bit. I think that they did what they were advertised to do.

I also have a 2 inch leveling kit and Timbrens, here are some pics...

Full water, toys and "stuff" for a week in Glamis GCW somwhere around 22k, pin weight somewhere around 2500lbs...

Hope these help...

Thanks Ron - looks good. Not too much squat. I don't mind a little, just don't want it looking nose high because of my front leveling kit.

Don't let the weight police see those #'s.

I carry a small air compressor in my fiver. It comes in very handy on the road for more than airing the bags. I vote for the airbags because you can vary the pressure depending on your load. I run 10# more air when I have to carry water. I dry camp often and that allows me to level the truck no matter the pin weight. Level means your lights are never out of adjustment.

I have timbrens and like them. If I had my front raised I would probably go with the air bags. I dont like the way a pu handles when the front is higher than the rear. My 01 was like that and it was kinda squirely at times.
