After 198,000 miles the oem clutch is about to give up. Yesterday with the trailer I had to kill the engine and start the motor, with the clutch depressed the truck still wanted to roll forward. Prolly 95% of those miles are towing a trailer so I guess I can't gripe too much. Just had to vent a bit. Okie

That has to be a record for the G56 DMF!!

What are you going with? CON-O with a SMF would be slick.

I'm very surprised. You must be a very skilled clutch user to get 198k miles out of a dmf and clutch assembly. That is unheard of.

Almost certain to go back stock. will replace slave cylinder and basically anything to do with the clutch. I am thankful I was close to the house (40) miles instead of two or three thousand. What hurs the most is calling my brother to come get the trailer in his pickup. He has a Ford, my trailer is set up for the air ride hitch. I use the same hitch for the 5er travel trailer and the gooseneck trailer. I get to ride the motorcycle for a day or two now.

I just changed mine @ 75k miles due to excessive vibration at idle and slipping under WOT. Surprisingly the disc wasn't very worn at all, but the DMF had about 5/8" slop between the 2 masses of the flywheel.

I installed a Southbend G56 OFEK solid flywheel single disc, which although isn't quite as smooth as stock it's nice to be able to use the go pedal without fear of runaway RPM's.

I had to change out my stock dual mass flywheel at 156,000, Went with South Bend replacement. Totla job, flywheel, entire clutch aseembly, bearing, and new hydraulics, installed came to $2,000. I'm glad I changed from oem, and cheaper too. Seems to be as smooth as oem. I tow 16,000.

How many miles are guys getting out of the DMF clutches with no engine mods? Just curious cuz I have 74K on my factory clutch with no engine mods but aFe Stage 2 filter and open exhaust. It runs fine and engages like the day I bought it..... I've been super cheap with extra performance parts purchases since I sold my pulling truck. :-laf

my stocko4 with 6 speed started clutch slip up grade in 6th last week. 104 k miles. Tow 11k+ to Southern Baja Mexico in the fall so need full power for Mex 1 grades and I 5 also. Should I upgrade to aftermarket clutch? Thank, Jim

You'll get a different set of opinions here.

Some who are naturally more inclined toward performance enhancements will recommend the Southbend clutch. Others like myself will point out that if the OEM original gave you good service for 114k miles why not replace it with a new OEM Luk system?

I readily concede that SBC products and recommendations are excellent, probably hands down the best available in the aftermarket but do you really need the upgraded aftermarket clutch for your type of driving and towing?

All clutches involve compromises between smoothnesss of engagement, holding power, service life, and cost. Aftermarket clutches usually offer a different approach to the compromise. Engagement might be more abrupt, might chatter, etc.

I put in an SBC CON O a couple of months ago. It's a great clutch but I like the engagement of the stock clutch better. I will say my NV5600 shifts much better though. I honestly see no reason to go with anything other than stock for your needs unless, of course, you want to.

Did go with the oem. Put 5k on the new one already and no problems. Needed it done quick so went with all new parts in the clutch. Was out of commission about a day.

Okie

Glad your back on the road. . Hopefully you get the same service life out of the 2nd one and your 1st wasn't an oddity.
