I've been looking into getting a new starter battery for my 93 4X4 LE . The Optima deep cycle is interesting. Does anyone have experience with these batts. . Do they even make one with 1075 cc amps?... ... I read in my manual that that is the minimum even though the Mopar batt that's in it is 1025 cc amps... ..... Thanks for looking... ... ... Chuck

My 93 was about 5 years old when I needed a new one, went to NAPA and got one from them, a year later I got a new one from NAPA under warranty, a year later that one was dead too. Decided I didn't want to do that each year so I went to the stealer and bought an original equipment type battery. It was working fine when I sold the truck a few months ago.

csnider,

I've used Delco in my Diesels for years with no problems, right now I have a 31-900 in mine and it works fine!

Sears Batttery

Had good luck with the Sears Gold (or whatever the most expensive one was) battery. I bought the largest battery they had (sizewise) and modified my bracket in a vice to make it a bolt in affair.

When it comes to batteries for our rigs the only place that seems to carry the proper size (30H) is Sears. The 30H is a 1025 CCA battery and is one of the largest single batteries in the light truck class. This web site has a battery selector that covers about 15 of the leading brands, they seem to be made by a single company, Johnson controls.

This site shows the proper battery and where it can be purchased at.

I have an Interstate in my '92. It has been a great battery and is already 6 years old and is giving no hint of giving up. It is 1100 CCA at 32*F and 1050 CCA at 0*F. I have three more of theses batteries in farm tractors and they are well worth the money. The last one I bought was ~ $105. They have a 5 year warrenty on them. Hope this helps.

I have used optima batteries for 7 years. In that time I have only purchased 1 and it still comes up with good numbers when I do a load test on it, I have used them in several other vehicles and have never had any complaints on the optimas, and I run alot of electrical devices in my rigs. I use only one red optima currently but have considered putting a second in but the first had never given enough reason to pursue that issue.

Interstate! If you are going to use a conventonal type battery, I feel they have the best batteries. I tried a different one from Kragen (sorry, can't remember the brand)in my old truck that had 1000CCA and had nothing but trouble with it. Finally ended up getting in an argument with the store manager about it and told him to just give my money back.

In my Dodge, the interstate I have is a 975CCA rating and I have had zero problems in almost 3 years.

Some of the guys are reporting good luck with the newer gel type batteries and they sound pretty good.

csnider, I don't think you want a deep cycle for a starting battery in your truck. they are designed for a smaller amp draw over a longer period. Anyone else know more about this?

battery

My 93 3/4 4x4 had a group 31 commericial hd in it when I got it.

No problems this winter. I noticed Sam's club carries a grp 31 which looks to be the exact same battery, fyi.

When I was looking for a new battery about 2 years ago for my '93 the only one I could get was one from auto zone that wasn't any where near as big. What I would do again is convert over to dual batteries, there is enough room on the tray for two smaller batteries and then i would fab up a bracket to hold them in place. I don't think one battery is enough for our trucks, when my grid heater cycles it really pulls on the charging system.
