I helped a friend put one of those big honkin air filters on his truck this weekend. We were was fabricating a shield for it and took off the turbo elbow. I was able to feel up and down movement of the impeller. We have had the elbow off before and did not feel this. There is no in out movement but there certainly is up and down movement. There are no other symptoms. The truck is an 01/Auto/4x4 with a stock factory hy35 turbo. The truck has 155,000 miles on it. He plows with it and tows occasionally in the summer. It has an edge ez and jammers 2 nozzles. There is a J hook as well. This is the second turbo as the first one was replaced under warranty at 95,000 miles. Hs has full gauges and has not had any excessive readings. Does he need to replace the turbo right NOW? If so how about some reccomendations for a replacement? I have done some reading about the edge turbo and the BD super "b".

Thanks in advance for any and all opinions!

Thanks for the reply. there is no scraping. We were concerned because the last time we checked there was no play at all.

Thanks much. We are going to try to measure how much movement there is . We just want to replace it before it does start to scrape and take other stuff with it.
