Hi my turbo on my 99' has just about had it (alot of play in the shaft) Now my question, I have an edge comp, 275's and a 4" straight through ehxaust and I am thinking about an HX40 or something like that??? Any Help would be great also where would the best place to buy one from???

Thanks, Travis

There are alot of turbos and alot of different opinions on turbos. I would suggest searching the forums and decide for yourself what you want for what you are going to do with it. I am sure an hx40 would work for your application, but there are places like Industrial injection, High tech turbo, piers, source automotive, etc, etc that have good turbos to look at. I would find what you are wanting to spend and what you are wanting to do with the truck and then call some of these places and see what they have to say.

Try J. R. at Adkins Diesel Performance. Sounds like his new Scwitzer turbo would be a good fit for you. Very fast spoolup. His # is below in my sig.

Check on a phat shaft 62 from industrial injection. That is what I'm running now and love it. I don't have injectors yet :{ but have the comp and the two work very well together. Good spool up and keeps nice and cool. The thing I like the most about it is it has a wide range for the horsepower specs so I can bomb away and never have to change it again... ... unless I want twins :-laf . Lots of good info on all types, but have to throw my vote to industrial injection(great people).

Do you have an auto or a manual transmission? In either case, I would not go any bigger than an HX40 if you are planning on keeping the RV275s. You can find a new HX40 for half what a Phat Shaft will cost you. You're gonna have to swap downpipes with either though, and that's more money. Most places want $180 just for a downpipe and clamps.

So if it was me and I had your setup, I would probably go with a Dodgezilla hybrid turbo with the 14cm2 housing from City Diesel. You're retain your stock downpipe with this one. If thread keeps going, you'll probably get a lot of recommendations for the DZ, especially at your HP level. You've gotta remember, you're probably only at 350HP tops and that's really just getting to the threshold of a big turbo upgrade. The Dodgezilla is the only one I've heard of that actually performs well between 300-350HP and it will also put down some major numbers. WadePatton put down 473HP with one sometime in '04.

I agree with the first response. We are all kind of partial to our selection as far as turbos and you will need to read a little figure out what will best fit your application. High Tech makes a great one and Industrial Injection also makes very nice turbos. I haven't heard much about TAD's B1 stuff lately but they are also very very reliable turbos. If I can be of assistance on helping you get pricing or purchasing a turbo, please let me know. Good luck.

HTT can upgrade your compressor pretty cheap. I have seen it too many times though that people say just 275's. I have had stage 1, 3 and now super mentals in my 01. I would say if you can afford it go with an HTT HTB2 or a phat shaft 62. I think for the money the HTB2 is the better deal. PM me if you have any questions.

We are the source for Phat Shaft Turbos. Our Super Phat Shaft 62 is a very good turbo which has been very popular with everyone. But I wanted to tell you that we have one of the biggest turbo inventories in the country and we do have HX40 turbos as well. Our Phat Shaft 62 is our entry level turbo which is a nice increase in air and more air flow than a HX40. Price is not that much more and if purchased in a package it would be even more affordable. Thanks
