New Fan Clutch issues

At 130k miles trans would slip a little between shifts, Now at 142k the TC locked up on me the other day.... You have to fight the brakes when holding a stop in drive as well as reverse. From what I understand.....The TC is toast. Fluid looked fine, not burnt. My rear crank seal has been leaking for a bit and I have a coolant leak that always has dripped from the bottom edge of the bell housing. Long story short.... Trans is coming out.

Addressing the rear seal and coolant leak of course but.... Which route should I go with the TC / Trans. I tow a 12k boat during fishing season and I run a Smarty on #3 (have not been higher).

I'm looking at a billet flex plate, a triple disc TC with stock stall and perhaps a stage III trans (already built/built to order) with maybe some billet internals and upgraded guts. I see ATS, BD and FirePunx as well as the do it yourself, buy all the parts etc route. I'm looking to go built to order and am wondering what would be best. I'd eventually like to tune up to about 450hp....

I would recommend finding a shop near you that is capable to build a stout trans.Buying a trans from a distant supplier can be quite a pain when you have an issue.Agood example if you buy a trans from the big companies in Florida the warranty protocol is to ship the trans back and wait for them to get it in line,I know there are other companies that have the same policy.
For your coolant leak you will probably find a short hose on the drivers side seeping. The replacement has a slightly smaller I’d.It will be easier with the trans out

If you want to make the drive down Mike @ Inglewood Transmission in Fullerton Does a great job . Uses all Goerend parts He was refererred to me by Bob4X4. He also built my friends Allison in his Chevy. He can rebuild in a day.

Here's what I did on my recent transmission rebuild. I bought all the Goerend parts for the rebuild and my local trans mechanic installed them. Total costs for the parts was around $1,960. Here are the parts I bought:

DODGE SINGLE DISC TORQUE CONVERTER W/BILLET STATOR - 15SS (https://goerend.com/goerend-triple-disc-torque-converter-5-9l-cummins-1994-2007/)
GOEREND 48RE GT2 MASTER OVERHAUL KIT (https://goerend.com/goerend-48re-gt2-master-overhaul-kit-2003-5-2007/)

My mechanic installed them and I paid him $1,600 in cash. In all I was out $3,560, which is pretty good since the dealer was asking $5k for a rebuild.

BTW, truck runs solid now!

HMS Diesel in Dublin builds great 48RE, small shop with high quality. They built mine and some friends of mine, no issues and lots of hard use.

So, I decided to do a complete rebuild. I went entirely with Goerend.... Here's what I got.

Goerend billet triple disc TC with stock stall and lifetime warranty, Goerend billet flexplate, Goerend custom valve body, Goerend GT2 master rebuild kit with billet front band, Goerend deep aluminum pan, Goerend / Sonnax one piece billet input shaft with lube mod. About $4500 in parts plus another $600 in core charges for the TC and VB. Monty at Transman Transmissions in Petaluma is going to do the rebuild and labor for $1300. Going to do a rear crank seal while the trans is out as well as the updated turbo coolant line. Thinking about a external trans filter set-up and maybe a cooler as well. Goerend says the trans should be good for 600hp after rebuild. I've never had the smarty past #3 so this should be interesting. Due for a valve adjustment also.... 143k on them now.

EFI would further enhance driveability.
Way smoother and cleaner than Smarty. I used Anarchy's Autocal w/CPS5 switch. 30-130 hp in seconds.
That being said I normally use the 60 hp tune.

Just had 48re rebuild by Mike Lovrich at Inglewood Transmission, Bob4x4 also recommend him to me. I highly recommend Mike he know his stuff, very professional, I called him several times before I drop my truck off, answered all my questions. Love the way the trans works now, night and day from stock.

U can’t go wrong with goerend . They are great and will help u anyway they can.
I rebuilt my transmission myself around 10000 miles ago and it works great. I bought tc stock stall billet flex plate center billet shaft , GT2 rebuild kit, goerend valve body with upgraded GM solenoids, deep al pan. Billet input shaft, They loaned me tools that I needed. You couldn’t ask for better people to work with.
