2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Time for Ball joints

Well at 167,000 miles my front ball joints are done and its time to tear apart the front axle again. I just got done reading a bunch of other posts on ball joint replacement and not sure which way to go. So here are some questions

1st What is the best ball joints ( I usually use Moog)

2nd Should I go with the adjustable upper ball joints ?

3rd What special tools do I need ? I have a 20 ton shop press, blue tipped wrench, MIG, and sockets up to 3" .

4th any short cuts would be great help.

I have already replaced the wheel bearings and axle u-joints at 100,000 miles and I did use anti sez when I put it back together so I shouldn't need to use a BFH to get it off again .

Of course after this I will finally fix the vacum pump oil leak since I have had the parts for over two years now, not like I have anything else to do :{ . We are selling the house right now and getting ready to move south to Kentucky and the truck is going to get some serious use soon.

If you have wacky caster camber ya adjustable ones you will want.

Get ones that you can grease. I have joints from NAPA. Very tight yet after a couple years.

I never did mine. I did a Bronco once. What a PITA!

I changed over to the adjustable and greasable. you can buy everything you need from www.quad4x4.com. they will have instructions and a tool list . i beleive they do sell moog also. Check it out they helped me out a lot.

Funny this topic comes up. I just took my truck in for an alignment last week and the shop told me that all the ball joints were shot, 59887 mi. For about $800 they could fix it or if I had a contract with Dodge they might cover it. Well I did have a contract that I had completely forgotten about until he mentioned it. Took it to Dodge last week and they ordered the parts with 113 miles to spare and they fixed it today for only $100. I guess I should be thankfull that the shop reminded me about my contract or I would have been out a heck of alot more since I cannot do the work based on my work schedule.



If I were to buy my own parts they would all be greaseable and a lifetime warranty if possible.
