I have a 2005 3500 Quad CAb 4X4 with 35,276 mile and need new front pads.

What have you guys / gals been using? Are you turning the rotors?

Thanks,

Rick

Based on recommendations from threads regarding brake pads on this site, I replaced mine with OEM at 45,000, and just turned rotors and again replaced with OEM at 95,000. I'm happy with life/performance.

My 04 3500 went 160K before the first front brake job... . truck now has close to 275K and needs to be checked again... but expect it to be ok... .

My 05 3500 now has almost 90K and their still fine as well...

Both of these are work trucks... and tow large loads... are you sure you really need pads with only 35K... . a lot of tire shops will try and sell you early with 50% of the pad remaining... .

We only use Performance Friction pads... . very high end... . but well worth the money..... every 2 years we bleed and flush... .

Hope this helps. .

Over 211k on my originals and most of that hauling heavy out here in the SW, going with OEM here soon! Only 35k, do you rest your left foot on the brake pedal?

Well, I do alot of around town driving and about 15-16000 miles have been towing 12000 lbs. I've got less than 3/32 left on the pads. I don't think I ride the brakes at all. Maybe I do but don't see that kind of brake wear on my other vehciles. Dealer wants $210. 00 for a front brake job which includes turning the rotors. I don't know if 35,000 miles is soon for brakes, I just know that I need them.

I made the mistake of replacing mine with the "Value Line" to save a few bucks. I have NEVER experienced the amount of brake dust these brake pads produce. The money you save on the brakes will be offset by the amount of water you use to wash your wheels off--almost daily. My recommendation---Don't buy the value line brakes!!!!

EBC 6000 or even better 7000 series.

on my 98 over 130,000 miles on the 6000 series w/ new oem rotors.

Just put 7000 series on my 06 w/ new EBC SPORT SLOTTED AND DIMPLED rotors I have 2500 miles, NO DUST and feels GREAT!

WOW - that sounds like a great deal... . mine wanted roughly $400. 00 for a front brake job including rotor turning. Which is why I decided to do them all myself... ... ... ... . now look at my most recent post about snapping off a bleeder valve... ... . $210. 00 starts sounding pretty good to me about now.....

Well after much thought and discussions with other local owners I had the dealer do the brake job. $175. 00. Rotors turned and I went with the valueline pads. Lifetime warranty on the pads. I will report back on brake dust issues.

Thanks,

Rick

From what I understand lifetime warranty pads are usually pretty hard and eat up rotors

77K on our "03" replaced with the Mopar Value Line from Geno's, inspected the rotors and looked fine so just replaced the pads. Easier than I thought it was going to be.

Some pads like NAPA high like pads eat rotors fast. I went with mopar pads. I used to use Performance Friction but at least the ones at Autozone are now being chamferred too fast and they get burned. Then the edges of the pad crumble and you get unbelievable brake squeal. My original pads weren't worn out at 78,000 when I replaced them. I did put on a lot of interstate miles, tough, so used them less than if most of that were city driving.

I only replace with OEM pads and rotors on my cars and trucks. As much life as I get out of them, I really don't see a reason to change to anything else. And due to the long life out of front pads, I usually just replace the rotors at the same time. I just replaced the pads and rotors on my car for the first time at 110k. I haven't even inspected the truck with 55k.

However, I too use Performance Friction pads and EBC rotors. It just happens to be on an '03 Honda RC-51 track bike. :D

I went with OEM pads again. Got 70k miles out of them, thought they earned their $200 price tag.

I have had good experiences with performance friction pads in the past on a different truck, although I did have a set delaminate or the rivets broke or something and I ended up with metal on metal on one rotor. Spooky experience, but again I was not easy on the pads and had about 4 other sets of pads with no issues. I would buy them again.
