My stock Michelin 265/70R17 LTX A/S tires have 85,000 miles on them; they'll probably go to 90K. I want to replace them with the same or similar long-lasting, quiet riding highway tire; the truck is 2WD and I'm pretty much a highway driver, although I tow a cargo trailer occassionally.

I'd like to increase the tire size to 285, and stay with Load Range E. Should I get Michelins again? I see posts on the website quoting Michelin mileage between 75K and 105K.

Or something else? In a post from 3 years ago, a former Michelin rep said he personally purchased BFG tires; mileage not quite as high as Michelin, but a lower cost, so he obtained more tire miles per dollar.

NOISE is an important factor; I like a quiet ride. :) And, WHERE TO BUY? Costco? Sam's Club? Les Schwab? Thx.

On my 01 I have had a few different sets of tires, and the latest and current set, Michelin 265/70R17 LTX A/S from an 03 truck, have given me the best ride, noise, and MILEAGE yet.
They do NOT have the traction that some of my other tires have had though.
Wet weather traction was tops with the Bridgestone Revos. I LOVED those tires for driving in the rain! Especially all the hurricane weather when I lived in TX.
So, cost per mile is one point, but mpg difference might make up for that.
And noise wise, these are hard to beat!

I purchased BFG Commercial tires from Costco. The ride smoothed out quite a bit & they are so much quieter than the original Goodyear's. Of course, my 1997 3500 only has 36,000 miles on it, so the OEM tires dry-rotted.

Even the wife says it doesn't ride like a lumber wagon anymore. They are load range E, too. They are a "highway traction" type of tread, so I wouldn't take it "mudding". :)

I drive class 8 trucks for a living, & I pick up tires from the manufacturers. Michelin owns BFG & they do share technology (according to the guys @ the plant in Alabama).

Most of the major big-truck companies prefer Michelin & they buy a LOT of tires. I would think that they are concerned with a return on their investment.

Just my nickel's worth. :D

Had the LTX M/S on the truck when I bought it, slipped horribly in the rain. Where I live a good rain tire is a big necessity, especially this year!

Any time you alter your rolling resistance you will alter your mileage. 265 to 285 will probably be miniscule though.

From my experiences, I've never heard of a BFG tire getting 75K to 100K miles on any truck, & they're pretty much priced the same as Michelins. Most people I know buy the BFG's All-Terrain T/A K/O, which is an all terrain tire, which IMO you don't need on a 2WD truck. I've had excellent luck with michelins, willing to bet you will too...

With that may miles why change to anything else.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm almost to 75k now, and I think my tires will go to 100k (I rotate the spare in too). OEM Michelin LTX A/S.

I really want to change to the 295/70/17 Nitto Grapplers, but in my current financial state I simply can't justify it when these Michelin's last SO LONG!

I'm thinking of going to the Michelin LTX A/T2's for a little more traction in snow and mud.

They're pricey, but it's really hard to beat over 75k miles of life out of one set.

i just put a set of bridgestone dueler a/ts and love them. they are the standard dueler, not the revos that some people have. i went with them because they have a bit more aggressive tread pattern. i also stuck with the stock 265 size. they do much better on wet roads and snow than the michelins ever did. Bridgestone Dueler A/T with UNI-T

If I change from 265 to 285, will mileage go up or down -- increase or decrease? Less tire revolutions per mile, so less engine RPM at a given speed. But, more rolling resistance. So, will mileage go up or down?

You are kind of limited by the 17" wheel. The original Michelin's are as good a tier as you will find for all season highway driving.

Do you think the Michelin LTX A/S is better for your truck then the Michelin XPS Rib?. XPS Rib, 16", Range E, is what I will have installed on the new 5er when we get it early next month.

I have 2 sets of Michelin tires (and Rims) that are brand new if anyone wants them. PM if interested I have swapped out the tires on my last two trucks.

I have the stock 265 BF rugged Trails on my truck and I have 87k on the truck. They work great, I would have gotten 90k out of them but took a large piece of metal in the right rear this morning on the way to work, so I will be getting new tires by the weekend.

I have 122K of towing miles on my Michelin XDE M/S. Yes, they're 19. 5's, but that's still amazing mileage considering a few guys I know only get half that many miles out of their "el cheapo" 19. 5's. They should go close to 130K.

I have a set of Sumitomo 918's that I bought last winter so could have new tires in the winter. They are very similar to the Michelins. I went with cheaper tires because I figured I'll wear out the truck before I need tires again. Otherwise I'd go with the Michelins again.

Im looking for Michelin's now, but, dont really know if I should get RIB or LTX's

Id love 19 1/2's but could not afford them if I paid, FOOL price...
