I was just at the dealer today about my 285/75R/17 Toyo OC AT's. I have 18K miles and when new the tread was 17/32. It is now 6-7/32.

From my experience, there is a HUGE difference between the A/T and M/T Toyos. I'm on my 3rd set of Toyo M/Ts, and have run both 35x12. 50 and 37x13. 50s. On each set, I've got 40,000 - 45,000 miles with the truck set on 600 hp mode all the time. At least 60% of these miles have been pulling/hauling/working. A good portion of them have also been major offroading.

I've jumped the truck more than 4' in the air literally a hundred times at least, have been through river beds, extreme mud, rock crawling with a 9k lb truck aired down to 18 psi, broken through 8" of solid ice into 3' deep water, etc, etc, etc. I've had the rear axle weight at over 8,000 lbs on these tires, and they've never missed a beat. I've never had a flat, never blown one due to abuse, and they keep on going. These tires are balanced so well, that I don't even have them balanced on the wheel anymore. To me, a 37" mud tire that will handle 110 mph with no vibration unbalanced is exceptional!!!

I've tried ProComp X-terrain and Mud Terrain, BFT A/T and M/T, all with dissatisfaction. I ran a 285/75 Toyo A/T this summer to Alaska, and wore off 13/32 tread in 8k miles. For some reason, the A/Ts do not wear nearly as well as the M/T.

Well, that's my experience :)

Oh... and all of the Toyo M/Ts I've had have been made in Japan... probably not my first preference, but, after all, my truck was made in Mexico.

Well I'm done with Toyos. No sense in being unhappy with another set. The dealer I bought them could have put me in 285/70r/17 Toyo AT for 538 out the door or BFG AT KO's for 666 out the door. I'm going to try the BFG for a while. I think the dealer was more than fair, Could have said see ya... ... ... ... . !!
I thought hard about the Toyo mt's but I'd probably hate the noise.

He said most the 285/75's are on backorder down here in the south.

Just got word that the 285-75-17 Toyo AT's are 60 days away. I guess I'll be looking for Firestone Destination 315 AT's next. The price just went up a bit this month.

I'm very happy with mine in my sig. Maybe 10K miles now and wearing well. Ride and handle very well. Next I will want to go larger, so will have to move off the Toyo AT's. I can recommend them if you want slightly larger than stock and an all-around tire. I might try the Toyo MTs next based on Eric's post.

I've run two sets of the M/T's and was quite happy with them but wanted to try something a little quiter and maybe get better mileage so I tried the A/T's and after they were about halfway worn I got death wobble. I thew parts at it thinking it couldn't be the Toyo's but quess what? When the tires finally wore down so I could justfy new rubber and I replaced them the DW went away.

Bottom line, I love the M/T but will never get the Toyo A/T again.

I think i will stick with my BFGs all A/t..... never had an oz of problems with them..... with all these post, you sort of get mixed emotions about the subject... .

I have had 2. 5 sets of toyos.
first set Toyo M55
38000 miles drove the haul road with my camper and took a 12000 mile road trip to key west pulling my toyhauler Loved these tires.

my second and a half set of toyos were purchased in Ketchikan Alaska The salesman was very convincning and talked me into the toyo AT said that i would get 45000 miles out of them and they were cheaper by 300 dollars I agreed he promised me a complete swap out if i was not happy.

at 10000 miles on these new set of tires and after 1 rotation i noticed that the rear tires were wearing way worse than the fronts the rears were at 6 MM and the fronts were at 12 MM. I went to Les Schwab in Juneau AK they tell me that it is because I drive a truck with a diesel that. . the diesel is causing the tires to wear faster YEAH right
they at that point tell me that it is my problem. . I go to my truck and get all my les schwab reciepts over the last ten years totaling about 8000 dollars for all my rigs I say to the Juneau sales man do you really want to lose my business over 1 set of tires.
??? I explained to them i was about to go hook up to my toy hauler and travel for the next month and I will be very close to the Corp headquarters in oregon and I will take it up with management there... Well they be grudgingly replaced my rear tires I still am not happy and i will be pursuing this further now that i am back from work travel.
usually Les schwab is much more friendlier and concerned about their customers.

I watch these tire threads very close.

So I guess I opened a can of worms here:-{}

Per the majority of responses I am leaning back to the Scorpions A/T I am running now. BTW Chris, were Toyo's that wore unevenly made in China?

Diesel rigs are hard on tires, the tq just eats them up. Combine that with towing, and softer tires to make the ride nice and you have very quick wearing tires. I have to rotate my current tires every 3K to keep them even front to rear (but I am towing a lot more these days than previous years).
