Time for some new tires and would like something with a little more load rating. I have heard that the Toyo M-55 is a good tire. Does anyone have pro or cons of this tire? How do they ride and are they noisey? Are there any other tires that anyone would recommend me looking at?

Thanks

Just an opinion here, but last year I switched to some Cooper ATs... they are the 305s and look beefy and handle great. The give excellent traction and I like them better than the Dunlops I ran previously. They fill the wheel well nicely and look great. My truck is stock height with no lift. Not sure of your setup, but thought I'd throw in my opinion. When these wear out, I'll definately go back to another set of Coopers.

WBusa,

Looks like we were replying about the same time... and great minds appear to think alike. Mine may be the M+S too... . not sure right off. I just know I love 'em!

What kind of tire life do you get out of your coopers?? I had a set about 4 years ago, and they only lasted MAYBE 25,000. Also, what style/model/whatever cooper are they, and what is their load rating?? Thanx for the info!!

I ran the stock Michelins for 48,000 miles, got a set of BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO's and took them back, they were only 8ply load range D, my trailer was making the rear end sway on the truck, I went with the BFGoodrich Rugged Trail TA's, 10ply load range E, much better. I'm not getting the wear I'd like with these and will probably scrap them out in another 15,000 miles. I hate to say it but those Michelins do get the job done, just not real pretty are they? I'm looking at Goodrich Mud Terrain's (sticking with load range E also) next, can"t stand getting stuck in 4 inches of mud, these diesels are pretty heavy. I have the Toyo's on one of my gas plow trucks, seems to be doing well for the first 8000 miles, good in snow too.

I like the Dunlop Rover, best truck tire I've ever had. I purchased 6 of them for my 95 Dodge/Cummins in 2000 which were the best rated truck tire on Consumer Reports. :)

I have 20K on my 285 M-55's. Looks like ~1/3 tread is gone, so I'm impressed with the little wear compared to the Toyo Open Country's I've had before.

They do sing, but not annoying for my tolerance. Ride very good, and work well on wet roads. No snow experience. I don't tow. I'd do it again.

As my sig says, in winter I run Cooper Discoverer M+S (a snow tire). I haven't had them or the truck long enough to comment on tread wear, except to say that last week when I took them off for the summer they had 7K miles on them and still looked like new. Like any true snow tire, if you run 'em year-round they'd wear out pretty fast (snow tires use a softer rubber). For summer driving I've reluctantly gone over to Hankooks (Dynapro AS RH03) for their top-rated rolling resistance (= better MPG). I've had them only a few weeks.

Load range "E", of course.

I've run either Michelins or Coopers on all my passenger cars for years, with about equivalent tread wear.

I looked around for tires with an 'E' ratings and desided to stick with the Michelin 265/75 r16's A/S. I got 57k miles from these which included 20k pulling a 14k lbs. fifth wheel. These are rated for 3415 per tire at 80 psi. I had no trouble with them at all.

I've had good luck with Cooper ST, were reccommended by a towing company as they hold up well under load and they can get 2+ years out of a set. I have 35K on mine with 50%+ tread left. The E rated tires now a have a 3415 load rating...

I tried the Big-O brand AT's and they were a big dissapointment. I'm trying the Pirreli Scorpion AT's (load range E). So far they are great! Awesome traction. If my truck wasn't 4x4 I would have stayed with the michelins.

Michelins

I like the Michelins on my 97. I got the LT 265 75R-16 ATSs load range Es and I'm very happy. My truck came with the 245 75R-16s Goodyear RTSs and I thought they looked too small in the wheel wells. Ken Irwin
