Time to buy a handgun-I need opinions

A different approach is maybe you should narrow it down to a couple of model choices, then go to your local range and rent them and fire them. I think this may help you with your selection. My only caveat is most of the mousegun autos do not give me great faith in their reliablity. We are talking CCW here, right? Reliability, accuracy and your personal confidence with how it shoots for you are the real determining factors. IMHO. BTW my carries are summer S&W P340PD with Crimson Trace grips in a Mika pocket holster. Rest of the year SIG P239 SAS S&W . 40 in a MS Versa Max II (IWB). Good luck in finding your sidekick.

A good carry gun is the Kahr but I think the Springfield XD in . 40 would also be a good choice. The trigger is better than a Glock and has the grip safety feature.

I have the 3" subcompact in 9mm and have shot the full size 45.

Ditto on the XD in a 40, played with a friends XD 40 at the range the other week and I must admit I was impressed, small, compact and never jammed once ... and we did quite a few rapid fire clips, the 40 does rise a bit though ... I carry a glock 20 (10mm) or a beretta 96 (40S&W) and you get used to the bark of the 40 after a few clips ... stick with the 40 S&W you can buy the ammo at wally world and you have the extra lil bit of punch if you ever need it.

My carry gun is a Bersa . 380, it's about the size of a J-frame hammerless . 38 revolver. Only paid 200 for it and it has held up very well, I have put alot of rounds through it without a single jam or misfire.

Shoot. I remember when the croatians were importing them as the MS2000 or something like that. They were well under $300 until SA stamped their name on them.

You were close, it was the HS2000. I remember seeing one new at a gunshop for $250 and thought it was probably a pile of junk. The polymer framed guns don't do much for me anyway but I couldn't pass on the Sub Compact for $210.



Just goes to show you that when you slap a recognized name on something you can charge more for it.

I checked out the Springfield XD . 40; seemed pretty nice but wasn't as comfortable as the SIG. It was about $100 cheaper, though.

I'll have to do a little more looking...

If the Sig feels best for you stick with that . . a few more dollars . . but a great handgun . . and "fit" is one of the major keys to enjoyable and accurate shooting.

The 229 is an excellent pistol. Expect to have some possible problems finding a holster if youre going for the railed model. I wouldnt get the rail unless you really need it.

I'm telling you guys, unless you just have to have 13+ rounds in the pistol, your missing the boat on the Kahr. VERY slim package, VERY light weight. Mine shoots great, good accuracy, super dependability, and VERY good quality and workmanship. This is a top quality weapon.

The P229R Holds 13 rnds in 9mm or 12 rnds in 40 S&W or 357 Sig ... If it don't stop after being hit with 10 rnds of 40 S&W or 357 Sig I am setting land speed records on foot ... stategic retreat ... whatever you want to call it ... but I'm outta there.
