It's about time to change all the gear oils again but for the life of me I can't remember what to put into the front and rear differentials. Rear is limited slip and front is not.

Useing Pennzoil Synchromesh in the transmission and Castrol ATF + 4 in the transfer case. Cummin's gets Delo 15w 40.

Thanks for "refreshing my memory".

For my '05 6spd, 4x4 LB, with stock differential covers, I used the following fluids for preventive maintenance in addition to engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter and new severe duty air filter.

Front Differential (9-1/4 AAM) -- 3 qts. (4. 75 pts spec'd) -- 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lubricant

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 GL-5 EP

Level - ¼” below edge of hole (+/- ¼”)

Manual Transmission (NV5600) -- 6 qts. (9. 5 pts spec'd, overfill using 12 pts. total via upper PTO bolt hole)

Pennzoil Syncromesh Manual Transmission Fluid 3501

Transfer Case (NV271) -- 2qts. (4 pts spec'd)) - ATF +4, type7176

Valvoline ATF+4

Level - Edge of hole

Rear Differential (11-1/4 LS AAM) -- 4 qts. (7. 6 pts. spec'd)) -- 75W-90 or -140 LS Synthetic Gear

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-140 GL-5 EP

Level - ¼” below edge of hole (+/- ¼”)

Brakes - 1 qt DOT 3 brake fluid

Steering Pump Reservoir- 2 qt. Valvoline ATF+4

Drain / siphon 2x

I always use the AMSOIL site to provide my fill capacities and what type to use. Since my O and M guide do not provide the fill capacities requirements.

Here is the link. AMSOIL Online Product Application Guide

You need to input the model year and then click on the Build list. Then click the correct models and follow the right hand side for the correct information.

I have had some problems with the rear pozi. At 55k it had to be replaced. We now check the magnet on the plug after every 2500 mile run. I tow big loads with it. The amount of metal filings were unreal, with these units it is because of the design. That's why they have a 15k change intervals. I tried most of them out there, started doing some research and found an article on a sher factor test on gear lubes. Carstol 140 synthetic out did them all by something like 16%. So I tried it and the amount of fillings dropped a lot, to a level I think is acceptable. We order it by the five gallon pal now and it's all we use in the shop for gear lubes now.
