Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Time to change the big ol'drive belt?

I have 86K on me '98, live in the SouthWest and wondering if it might be a good idea to change the drive belt... it just has the perpendicular cracks deamed ok in the sevice manual. Logic says yes indeed. Any experience?
