Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Time to change the LP???

Since I installed the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure is pretty constant at about 10 - 12 low throttle, and 5 - 8 WOT. This weekend, I went on a 1000 mile trip (towing 3000 lb) and noticed the pressure was around 2 a lot of the time. Should I change the LP? I feel pretty lucky because I've made it over 48000 miles with the original.



Anybody know where I can buy an LP for a reasonable price in the Salt Lake City area?

Your lift pump may be getting weak but you might check the fuel filter. I changed one recently that looked fairly clean but a new one brought the pressure up a couple of lb's across the board. As long as you get positive pressure to the VP44 you won't be doing serious damage to it.

Steve, I just replaced my first LP in this last December. I called Cummins Intermountain and they told me $160 for the LP. Then I read somewhere on here that you can get it at Freightliner for a little cheaper than Cummins. So I went to the Freightliner at 2100 south and 5600 west, the one that's just across the street from West Valley Truck. They had the LP in a Cummins Genuine Parts box for $135.

You could also increase your supply line size (change from solid line to 3/8" hose and) and move the LP (or equiv) back the tank.

I second what MPBerk said. I feel that just replacing the LP and leaving the fuel system stock is not the greatest idea. I personally went with the Wildcat Max Flow Kit, but I may also be moving the LP back by the tank some time after Memorial Day.



If your not too comfortable with working on the truck, there is a real good mechanic in Ogden who will move your LP back by the tank for you.

It is time for a fuel filter change so I'll do that first to see how the truck reacts. If the fuel pressure comes back up, at least I'll have the LP for the future.

Isn't it a waste to use healthy sized fuel lines, then try to run fuel thru those TINY miserable fittings!



I really gotta either drill mine out, or buy and install bigger ones, no doubt about it!
