GD hippies. There was actually a commune just about three miles from where I live now about 25 yrs ago. Not typical in central Missouri!

Skidders are cheating ! (just bc mine isnt ready yet) I'm in the process of building a death trap I call a skidder for my Oliver 770. A link YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

I will have to get at least a pic of the splitter that I built in Calif. If I can get away from FIL. Brought it out LAST YEAR!!!! when moving and that's the LAST!!!!!!! I have seen it. On mine I dont have to lift the logs to be split just roll them in and pull the handle. Those Yanmar motor's good ?

The Yanmar engines are flawless! I have been running them for years on air compressors at work. I have some older ones that still run perfectly. This thing is a BEAST on this wood splitter. The gas engine that was regularly sold on this thing was around 13 horsepower I believe. BigNasty, I would LOVE a log rack and lift!! I need to fabricate one for this. A neighbor who has a farm behind mine has been borrowing mine for the past couple months. I am gonna have to repo it to split some more wood, as I am going to put a wood stove in the shop.

When we moved from So Ca I made many trips just to get my shop and field equipment up to MT. I brought my tractor/log splitter and left them at the inlaws until we were moved. He has had them for about a year now. I asked the wife about firewood. She said to go get some from her dad's house. So the dilemma is do I want to cut wood or just go get some that HE cut. I think he can keep it for awhile longer :-laf

It is nice, My mules will hitch to wagons and carts but I havent done loggin with them yet. Old guy down the way logs this way said he would help to get my boys used to it. It's more of just exercise and fun for me. I didnt know that they still do it for real. Theres not a 24 hour Fitness around here so I have to stay in shape some how. This is another hobby. I kind of like the old way's of doing things.

Crosscut saw sharpening for the 2 man saw cutting wood this way will put some lead in your pencel,Son got me one of these to help burn off some calories. Or kill me havent figured out wich yet?

They have 2 man saw competitions at the Fryeburg Fair on Woodman's Day every year, it is something to witness.

Many teams are husband and wife.

A sharp saw and 2 people that can work together can get through a log some kinda' fast.

Mike. :)

The guy's at Montana Crosscut can put an edge on a bowling ball. We carry a saw with us on trail most of the time for dead fall's and blow downs across trail. If 2 people know how to work the saw they can cut big wood quickly. Ive never been to a lumber Jack contest like the one's on TV and the one you mentioned. I like the 2 head axe that will test your lower back and shoulders :-laf

I thought I would show you how I handle firewood here in RI. I like mules too. Iron mules. Here is a 2 cord load headed for delivery.

Thats a fine mule but it wont ride in the mountains very well, the only things my mules deliver is my butt to place's like this. It's enough for my simple taste's but not everyone's cup of tea. Just a little lunch before another simple pleasure. It dont take much to make me happy. :D It was a terrible thing to catch trout 18" and cook them that fresh just terrible. . But if someone has to do it I will do it and wont even charge for it. Dont look like RI now do it :-laf

READY!!!!! CUT it's a fun day for everyone to get to work together as a family. Many have forgotten the meaning of family have a great day :)

Well we had a full day of it. AM was skidding and loading logs until the wonderful lunch of deer chili. After that we kicked the logs off the trailer, bucked them and rolled them down hill to the splitter.

Had a great day of it (thanks to big nasty!) and ended up with a pile of 28" wood seven feet high and forty three feet long. It's Miller time!
