I've been fighting dead pedal problems for a year or so.

Have codes 0216 , 1693 and 0370.

Any thoughts on the best place to buy a replacement ?

Is the Blue Chip rebuild worth the extra money ?

Plan to install FASS DDRP at the same time.

Thanks,

John

I bought mine from Industrial Injection here in Salt Lake City. . Price was like $1300 after the core

Id say unless you get a hot-rod VP, just find a good rebuild place.

I probably shouldn't comment since I've never had to buy one. However, if I was buying one tomorrow, it would be from Blue Chip.

The trouble codes indicate a bad VP44 injection pump (see TDR#55, p. 96).

There are a number of Bosch authorized rebuilders out there, but some of the internet-based offerings have not had the reliability you would want.

I put a Blue Chip Special X in mine almost 2 years ago. I have the in-tank lift pump, I asked Chip if he's seen problems with that setup, he told me it should be just fine. I don't have any complaints with the Injection Pump, he claims 1-2 mpg increase, I got about 1 (I track mileage on every tank, hand calc). When it gets cold you can definitely hear the increased timing hammering away in there. I really don't know if I'd get this same pump as a replacement again, but I certainly don't have any complaints.

I just replaced my pump with a Blue Chip X15 std pump and it runs like a dream and much smoother and quiter running.

Think about it! You get a VERY high quality injection pump with premium parts AND a BRAND NEW "FED-EX" Heavy Duty computer attached. All others come with the original used computer if it tests fine on the stand. Chip is a nice guy and will answer your calls personally.

BUY A NEW CHECK VALVE! It does not come with a new check valve which does seem odd since it can fail. Always best to replace the injection pump, lift pump, cam sensor, fuel filter, check valve AND install a fuel pressure gauge all at the same time to avoid any further failures!

2001 Dodge Ram 2500, 2X2, Ext. Cab, Short Bed, 24 valve. No performance upgrades.

I installed a standard Blue Chip VP-44 and have been quite satisfied. Better performance, better mileage, more peace of mind due to the new printed circuit and steel bushing. I now also run 2-cycle oil in every tank (1 ounce per gallon) to replace the lost lubrication since we've had to switch to ULS Diesel. That has also quieted the pump and improved my performance and mileage (just a bit). I know that the longevity of the pump will be increased too. Ranchers here add old motor oil to their tractors and have been running them for years.

Blue Chip's my vote.

Cheers.

I got a MWFI unit. Been over a year, wire was tapped first day! No issues at all! Also No up-front core charge and cost about $1100. Average 18 mixed driving. Be sure to watch the video in the FAQ, very helpfull!

I replaced mine with the Blue Chip regular (X15?) and don't have any complaints!! I also run 2-cycle oil through mine on a regular basis or Marvel Mystery Oil for the lubrication. I installed an AirDog just prior to replacing the VP-44 so it runs great now... .

Talked to Eric at The Diesel Store ( Midwest FI ), very helpful.

He said they use the Fed Ex electronics on all their rebuilds.

So I ordered the pump with a FASS 95gph and 300hp marine injectors.

Hope to do the swap next weekend.

Well I dodged rain all weekend but I got everything installed.

(sucks not having a garage)

Took longer to bleed the lines than I expected.

Sounds smooth but have to wail till tomorrow to test it and check for

leaks. Still have to tie up lines and hoses.

The Diesel Dan how to videos on you tube were a big help!

I may need to look into a new vp. My mileage has dropped to 13-14 from around 20 last summer, I just replaced the Air intake sensor and the map sensor, didn't make any difference. The truck runs fine and starts without issue, just the mileage has gone south. No codes .
Any ideas?
No brake shoes dragging.
Dirk

I bought the MAP and AIT from Hoesli but have not installed yet. Just decided at 140,000 miles it was due. I will clean up the old ones and keep for spares and testing it I ever need to. I sure hope it is not your VP cause lots of $'s.
