I just replaced my pump with a Blue Chip X15 std pump and it runs like a dream and much smoother and quiter running.

Think about it! You get a VERY high quality injection pump with premium parts AND a BRAND NEW "FED-EX" Heavy Duty computer attached. All others come with the original used computer if it tests fine on the stand. Chip is a nice guy and will answer your calls personally.

BUY A NEW CHECK VALVE! It does not come with a new check valve which does seem odd since it can fail. Always best to replace the injection pump, lift pump, cam sensor, fuel filter, check valve AND install a fuel pressure gauge all at the same time to avoid any further failures!

2001 Dodge Ram 2500, 2X2, Ext. Cab, Short Bed, 24 valve. No performance upgrades.

Where does the statement about reusing the computer come from. I think Bosch rebuild standards call for a new PSC! SNOKING

From Blue Chip's website. Says some rebuilders reuse the computer if it checks out OK.

That is sales BS then. Show me a major rebuilders statement that they do that! They all know that early electronics was bad and use the new PSC if they are a quality rebuilder to Bosch specs.

From Blue Chips website

" Our competitors don't often replace the computer as it is expensive and if it works on the test stand briefly, and at 70 degrees or so, then it probably will be okay, is their policy! "

From Piers Diesel:

On sale now. Genuine rebuilt VP44's from Bosch

Why buy from Bosch - New electronic's, lastest & greatest updates & no short cuts taken!

***Bosch Waranty***

$1187us* while quanities last

*plus $400us core.

Again, Blue Chip statement is sales BS, and is most likely from years ago before it was known that the electronics where a major weak point. The new PCS or Fedex is used in most rebuilds today.

Give me a break!

There is more straight forward and quantified information on the Blue Chip sight than Piers Diesel even begins to attempt to provide. Piers sight is flat out vague in or provides little to no descriptions or information, and their pricing isn't even competitive. "ALL NEW ELECTRONICS" What does that mean??? Give me a break Snoking. Quit babbling about something you don't have the facts about whatsoever. A bazillion other guys say they sell "Genuine Bosch VP44's" too and they are cheaper than Piers' supposed sale. Are they selling something different than Piers if they are also selling genuine Bosch rebuilts??? Do their VP's not have the same components? Does a Bosch certified rebuilt vary from seller to seller in their quality and component replacement parts?? "Their" prices are $1050.

Lets get the facts straight before you go off bad mouthing a seller and making statements that simply are based on what you think and don't really know.

More thoughts...

If the "Fed-Ex electronics are so great (and I'm sure that they are) and everybody is using it in their VP's, then why don't they all tout this in their ads????

Blue Chip makes it clear about what the "ADDITIONAL" cost of this computer is and thus the higher cost to the buyer for the VP44 with the "Fed-Ex" computer installed.

I think I must have gotten grumpy for having to work late on Christmas eve.

I would guess grumpy is correct. You do not have any true facts either. Merry Christmas! Go unwrap our present for Blue Chip! BTW, the electronics is the PCS.

Enough said.

Guys, look i certainly didn't mean to get a ******* contest started. all i wanted was the website for blue chip so i could research the different suppliers out there.

Here is the story on my truck. last jan. i was driving home from Atlanta when the check engine light came on (approx. 180,000 mi. ) no problems just light came on. took it to dealer a couple of days later, they said fault code showed apps bad. Replaced this (not realizing how ridiculously priced these are (($750. 00))) worked good, then about a month later i noticed that after a run of approx. 100 miles or more, when i came to a stop the engine idled at 1100 rpm, would not idle down until shutting off and restarting after a few minutes. A month or 2 after this started i was coming home from mid Florida when the truck died, i mean SHUT-OFF. i was able to get it off I-75, truck would idle fine no throttle response. i shut it off, got wrenches out and removed apps, unplugged and plugged it a couple of times, started it back up and after 2 or 3 WOT's it finally started working OK. took it back in they said another fault on apps, they replaced it under warranty this time. again, ok for couple of months, then the high idle thing started again. also noticed it wanting to stumble as i was driving down the road, obviously worse under heavier load, no check engine light. replaced lift pump with in tank pump (again not realizing the price, you would think i would learn, my excuse is i have no time to do this. started running power services fuel additive (large quantities) seemed to help. what bothers me is it is "hit or miss" some times it is ok, other times it stumbles.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all

My truck started out with hard starting in hot weather. Then six months later I had a couple cases of dead pedal and found a P0216 code with the key cycle method. I took it to a dealer that said it was out of warranty. I contacted DC about the Cummins engine warranty beginning after the base 3/36. They said I did not know how to read the plain english in the warranty manual. I informed them that I was going to replace the VP44 myself and then file a claim with them. I got a good deal from Midwest Fuel Injection. They do not charge a core charge unless you fail to return the core in 30 days. Truck has run fine for almost 2 years.

I went back and forth with DC without getting money out of them. They even told the Washington State Attorney General that they could not read the plain english in the warranty manual also.

I gave up. Some paid attorney's to write letters and got their money back.

I think Midwest FI is the best deal from a large nationally known shop. They included a new return line check valve/pressure regular or what ever it is called.

I have had 0 problems starting. mileage had dropped to around 15. 3 then i installed the diablo power puck, mileage came up to 18 and it felt like a whole herd of horses under the hood rather than a team!! just checked to see if there were any codes, none.

I'm in the market for a VP44; my truck has been carrying the P0216 code for about four months. Dead pedal events are now almost a daily occurrence. I’ve been researching possible VP44 sources so I contacted Bosch by e-mail for some additional information. Indicated below is their response. I did not include my original questions.

Bosch does not require our authorized diesel service dealers to repair or remanufacture the VP44 injection pump. It is the option of the authorized service facility as to whether they want to invest in the equipment and training for the VP44 pumps or purchase VP44 pumps remanufactured by Bosch for resale. Feel free to ask your local Bosch diesel service dealer if they remanufacture the VP44 pumps they may sell or purchase remanufactured VP44 pumps from Bosch. That being said, we are not aware of any issues with VP44 pumps remanufactured by a Bosch diesel service dealer. You may find a listing of Bosch diesel service dealers at Bosch Service Overview.

The VP44 injection pumps remanufactured by Bosch and subsequently offered for sale by some of our authorized diesel service dealers, have all of the updates. VP44 pumps that are remanufactured by some of our authorized diesel service dealers and offered for sale may not have all the updates. Remember, it is the option of the individual authorized service dealer as to whether they purchase remanufactured from Bosch or do their own remanufacturing. Again, I can say that we are not aware of any issues with VP44 pumps remanufactured by a Bosch diesel service dealer.

It is my understanding that Bosch remanufactured pumps have the following updates/new parts which are basically all that are offered on a remanufactured pump by them:

a. Pump Housing

b. PSG (the electronic control for the pump itself)

c. Timing Piston

d. Head and Rotor

e. Internal Supply Pump

f. All bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. are replaced

Obviously I would prefer to replace my trucks’ pump only one time. So I’m going for a remanufactured pump that has these updates and I hope (and pray) that the pump will last a lot longer than the typical standard 12 month warranty. I plan on doing the R&R myself.

billmac1 got mine here Diesel Performance Parts and Accessories. Injectors Pumps Filters Additive Gauges and Apparel. good price, exelent service, and you can do an online chat to have any questions answered.

If you are going to DIY than watch this series first YouTube - VP-44 Install and Removal Series 1 of 5

it will make it a lot easier.

Thanks for the tips. I've tried to watch the videos that you mentioned, but my pc has a dial up connection and 44 kbps is the fastest speed it will go. As a result, the videos take for ever to view. I tried to down load the files but I can't figure out how to do it.
