Time to Roll Back to 1966?

In 1969 I ordered and bought a 1970 F-100 4x2 w/390 and 4-spd sport custom. Shortly after, one of my first mods was a 1962 Mercury vacuum brake booster, cuz I almost ran over a big ol' Cadilac running 95 mph down them Montana no speed limit freeways. The motor lasted a hole' 50,000 miles, Jeeze what junk, however I still have it, only now it has a 427 side oiler

In 1970 I ordered a 1971 Ford F-250, 2WD, 390 engine, 4 speed, Sport Custom, Camper Special Package. I immediately installed a set of Hooker Headers with two long glass pack mufflers and a 650 cfm Holly carb. Great power. At 104K I had the engine rebuilt. At 121K I had the engine replaced. I replaced everything under the hood 1 to 4 times. Sorriest truck and engine ever made. These new Dodge trucks are a 100% improvement over the old trucks of yes-ter-year. To say nothing of the power, the comfort and the economy.

I know, It's the "Ford and 390". My son has it now and I think he want to sell it because his wife hates it and he doesn't drive it much anymore. Still runs good when it's not broke down.

LMAO guys..... I would get rid of the needless crap, GPS, Onstar, etc. I worked on Mercedes-Benz for 5. 5 years. Even the Owners didnt' know they had some of the options they had!



I'd like to step things back to modern engines and transmissions, but the Old bodys. Keep the basics, power windows, locks and the things like that. Easy to fix, easy to diagnose. Sure my 87 Chevy Caprice gets 21mpg on the HWY, but 14 in the city. Modern engine in that car, I'd be seeing high 20's on the why and low 20's in the city with more power and better reliability.



I don't want to step back to "damn I flooded it" on a -20 degree morning when I'm running late for work. Turn the key, the ECU knows it's colder than Heck out and can adjust the fuel mixture properly. Starts every time, no flooding, no hesitation because the carb is out of adjustment. No timing to set..... the list goes on and on... .



Heck the 100,000mile mark used to mean something, now that's something that almost every car does.



I do miss the "boats" like my Caprice. Not many cars can you fit a 6' fishing pole in the trunk without bending it.
