Time to switch to synthetic.

I am serious about switching to synthetic. Do I need to run a flush in the engine. I have 30k on the truck and I have pulled several good loads. If it makes a difference I am leaning to the amsoil from what I have read on here. Thinking of just letting it drain over-night to make sure it is empty so to speak. Any thoughts??

I am curious as well. I have 45,000 on the ticker and will probably switch next oil change. Also adding the FS2500 bypass filter.

Yes, as soon as you pour it in, it is pretty much black. It would be nice to have a 03-04 305/555 that keeps the oil clear, but thanks to epa we have to deal with black oil.

Odd thing is that the 6. 7L 305/610's are staying nice & clean----at least according to a couple of the guys in the 6. 7L Forums.

The latest issue of TDR had a response from Dodge on synthetics: they recommend using 5-40. I have been using Amsoil since 1975 and have had good service. I will be switching to the 5-40 next oil change.

I do not think you need to run a flush of the engine. You don't have to let it drain overnight either. I'm changing mine back to Amsoil as soon as I can get the time to do it. I'm not draining overnight, flushing the engine, or standing on one leg like a flamingo. Synthetic oils are compatible with dyno oils so you shouldn't have to do anything special. Just my opinion.

Thanks, as to the weight I 'll probably do the 15-40. Just don't think I need the 5w down here on the gulf coast.

I have been running 15w40 Amsoil for 25k and love it. I might veture to the 5w40 next time. I have always run Amsoil in everything I ever owned, and had good results, so go Amsoil!

Schaffers

I started useing schaffers supreme 9000 syn. oil 5w 40 at 30,000 miles on the OD. I have around 49,000 miles now on the truck. I am very happy with the schaffers so far. Oo.

I've never heard of flushing the engine when changing to synthetic oil. I started my '05 on 5w40 a little early about 7K miles, no trouble, did get black just as fast. I started my '96 on 5w40 at about 75K miles and again no trouble. Up here in the cooold weather the 5w40 is great, especially in the older truck. Really helps with cold starts.

With that kind of mileage (30K) I would not worry about flushing. Just let it drain and install. Use a good filter and enjoy the benefits of a great oil!

Hey guys, just was wondering if your using the Amsoil 15-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel and Marine oil or the Amsoil 15-40 Synthetic Blend oil? I've got an 05 3500.

I'm going on 15K on Amsoil 15-40 D&M with Amsoil filter. Mostly heavy towing. I have added about 3 quarts of oil over the 15K. I'll be doing an Oil Analysis soon.
