is 16. 5 to much timing for a 95 truck that i will be towing with? i just had to pull pump to change the tappet gasket and put pump together and came up with 16. 5. and its all back together .

I ran 17* on stock truck before all mods, ran great. then as I added mods I discovered i had worn DVs and had to bump it to 18*

yes it is a 5 sp . even if im towing it should work or should i go down to 15. 5 or16 i like the extra power. i just dont want to hurt it

The only concern I have heard with timing that high is a complaint of a low end loss of power and a little more lag. don't go any further until you get a new head gasket. and add fuel. how many miles are on truck and do you have gauges.

No... . when a truck is bone stock thats all the more timing you can run. More fuel and air causes cylinder pressures to go up therefore it's OK to raise the timing more than if you were running say 300+ RWHP. Besides, he has a 175 pump, it's not like raising the timing on a 215. Also, I've seen people run 17 degrees timing without popping the stock gasket with right around 250 RWHP... . but once they installed some 370's and power levels got 325+ it blew in a week!

it has 165,000 miles on it and i do have gauges just not installed yet. so from the sounds of it i should be ok ? icant complain about low end power or lag its much better than it was. should i watch for anything when i install the gauges?

thanks for that help

A loss in low end power would only come from the engine getting flogged out with fuel. And I don't know who said advanced timing would slow down spoolup but they are 100% incorrect it's quite the opposet.
