Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Timing adjustment on VP44?....

Quick question regarding the recent article from #47 p. 107 .....



Can I take my vehicle to my diesel shop and request the timing be changed? What specifically would I ask for?... ... . I am looking to improve day to day fuel economy. The heaviest load I have is a 8 1/2' cabover, so I am not doing anything excessive, I just want better economy around town... . My current average is 13. 5, unloaded. Would this be a good mod?... ... I did do a search and came up with plenty for the 12v but not much on our 24v's. . Any help would be appreciated.

The only way to change the timing on the 24V is with an aftermarket box like an edge comp or similar box.

that's what I figured... ..... It just seems to me that a box/ chip would increase the amount of fuel being delivered and I'm going more for fuel economy... ...

I think an edge ez does actually help fuel mileage a little with the timing feature.

With the right electronics,injectors and boost modifications more power and better fuel economy are possible. When I had DDIIs an HX40 an edge comp and a DTT converter I was able to get 22mpg. You can have your cake and eat it to.
