OK Guys, I've read about the EZ and some of the others on these pages and would like to hear from any of you who have installed the van Aaken CPC and also could any of you compare that unit to others.
I am intrested in all points of view, my truck is a 2001HD. Yes I'm still exploring ways to improve my fuel mileage.
Thanks, DB

David,

Check out VA vs PE-EZ thread. Some VA feedback there.

I want just a timing module. No Fueling... . I don't need it and don't want to pay for it. All I want is a little better mileage and lower egt's. I sure wish someone would sell a box that only changes timing for $200. I bet a lot of people that already have a fueling box, like me, would buy it. The technology is there, is there enough demand?

Corey, the DD box offers only timing, but it is not $200, more like $520 last time I checked. The capability of fueling is really nice, remember that your right foot controls how much "extra fuel" is added.

Yeah, I'd buy a timing only module! I'm looking for the economy.

Thanks LSmith, I looked at the DD box already, but that's what I mean... I don't want to pay $520 for a timing box. I think that if it only had a timing change, no fuel, it'd be a lot cheaper. I have enough fuel... and I know I could turn down my BD box, but why pay for something I don't need. I do need more power, Always need more power #ad
, but I'm gonna get that with injectors. I don't want to stress my injector pump a lot, I already put a new one in. Any one else interested in a timing only box?
Corey

Once I get my truck, that's the first add on that I'd look for. My main concern will be to maximize mpg!

Hey Gang,
I have been in email contact with van Aakin, they make NO fuel mileage claims of any kind.
To those of you with experience with these or similar devices, DO they improve fuel mileage, and if so by how much? The van Aakin costs $650. 00 assuming 2MPG increase what would the break even point be?

I put on the VA-CPC, HO version, about November. With the winter fuel/colder temps, I could not verify ANY fuel mileage increase. I MIGHT be getting up to a 0. 5 mpg increase, but, then again the increase I'm seeing could be just to continuing break-in, which is going slowly for me because I don't tow. I chose the VA partly because after reading hundreds of posts on this board, those that stood out as seeming to be the most carefully documented and not posted by someone selling one of the two products, seemed to point toward the VA as being slightly better for mpg and the EZ as being slightly better for power. But I quite simply did not see the mpg increase some others talked about. More recently, the posts seem to favor the EZ, and folks talk more about how 275 injectors will improve mpg. But a few posts can be found where someone installed 275's and lost mpg, so that's a gamble, too. This board seems to have an ebb and flow, and opinions on some products seem to change with time or as newer products become available. If cash is an issue, I recommend you don't jump into this; watch for about a year, and see if any new boxes come out specifically aimed at the mpg issue. Right now, power is their main goal. JMO. Also, I think you can shop around and find VA-CPC as cheaper than $650; the BD Plug 'n Power is the same thing, just imported in quantity and a new sticker slapped on it. Check with BD, BullyDog, and Carl's page.
P. S. - Due to the wind resistance, these trucks are very sensitive to speed. If you can stand it, slow down 3 to 5 mph, and you'll be amazed at the amount of improvement.

David Brown - The miles to payback is 66,857. That's assuming fuel mileage increase from 16 to 18 mpg & fuel cost is $1. 40 per gallon.

Here is the example:

No VA: 66,857 miles / 16 mpg = 4,178 gallons
4,178 gallons X $1. 40 = $5,850

VA add: 66,857 miles / 18 mpg = 3,714. 3 gallons
3,714 gallons X $1. 40 = $5,200
$5,200 + $650 (for VA) = $5,850.

Realistically I doubt you'd see a 2 mpg gain. I doubt you'd see any, why do you think VA doesn't make that claim. Somebody like me would test it scientifically and then start some trouble for VA. 275 injectors? Yeah maybe you'd see some gain, but only if you could resist using the power advantage of the 275's! #ad
Timing only box? I think you may see some gain there too. IMHO, the best combo for a little extra power and the potential for better fuel mileage is the RV275's and the DD-TTPM set on timing only. That's what I'll get, if I ever get anything. I'm alread able to get 20. 4 mpg @ 65 mph on winter fuel. That perdy good.

Hi HC,
Thanks much for your post, we live in the same neck of the woods. This truck just refuses to deliver the kind of mileage the '94 got. I know the '01 still needs more miles to complete breakin, so I'm trying to accomplish that and explore the options. I do think the prices of these modules will come down as time goes by and others come on the matket, and since the truck has gobs of power those atributes don't appeal to me. Just wish the '01 would deliver on fuel mileage.

------------------

Hi JyRO,
Thanks much for doing the math, I will drive the truck plenty long enough to pay back if and at this point thats a BIG if fuel mileage improves because of the module. I haven't bought anything yet and am sure the truck isn't broke in. Just wish and hope it will deliver the fuel mileage the '94 did. #ad

I don't have any experience with the VA, but I'm seeing a 2-3 mpg calculated improvement over stock with my EZ - and I seem to put my foot into it far more often than before the EZ. #ad

The place I buy my fuel just switched back to non-winterized fuel this week, so I'm looking forward to see what kind of changes I will see in terms of performance and mileage.

I've been real happy with the improved performance AND the bonus of improved mileage! BTW, the EZ is on the most aggressive setting.

My VA was good for 1. 5-2 MPG gain. If you keep your foot out of it the fueling is not a big deal and won't cost you any mileage, yet if you need some power you have it on tap and ready to go.
