how do i advance the timing in a 96 to 15. 5. truck is stock except intake bhaf and 4 inch straight exhaust.

you don't need that much timming on a stock truck. 1 degree advance from stock may help but more will not,Bob

I disagree. Joe Donnelly set my timing @ 15. 5 (98 12 valve, 12. 5 stock)- made a whole new truck out of it power-wise & mileage went up!

what degree is the stock timming? thanks

Look at the placard for the engine, it's on the assy case(drivers side) it will tell you what the pump is suppose to be timed at, now who know if the engine was TDC'd correctly before the pump was installed. The last few i've done are on the mark but I've seen some at 11 degrees... ... sick!

Why is it when the subject of timing comes up we talk about Tim? Was he the dude who pioneered timing advance on the Cummins? ;)

We have a turtle named Tim. Timmy the Turtle. He's asleep under a rock in his tank in the kitchen right now but around 5 or so he'll come out lookin' for some "Turtle Delight. " Timmy never seems to care what time it is. :-laf

Have you timed Timmy? ;-)

Not officially but I'll tell you he's quick, mighty quick. Don't think Timmy's gonna sit long enough for me to catch top dead center. I'm gonna say maybe milleseconds for head retraction, if you catch my drift.

He's still a baby, maybe the size of a silver dollar. Found him in the pool and saved him from a chlorinated watery grave.
