Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) DIY boost elbow

You can tell by my upgrades I have POWER MAX 3, HX40, DD III’s, was wondering about putting on a box to help with the timing. What would be the best way to go and do I need to spend the money on one??? Should I stack a comp box on it? Just looking for a little more power and being able to adjust my timing like the comp box. Should I just sell the power max and go with just the comp drag box??? Why do people put stacked box's on??

My B/C Prem is stacked with a VA and I can tell ya that when it is unplugged I lose that agressive bottom end punch if I just dead pedal it. Stack 'em!

:Edit: I don't think there is a way to "Adjust timing on the fly as the technology isn't there??? I could be wrong.

Some more timing will lower EGT by 75-150*. An old style VA seems to be the best for this, a little less timing than an EZ. You will only gain 20 HP or so, but with lower EGT so you have more useable power. Stacking boxes is all about power.

I would not buy a comp, you cannot adjust timing, only boost level that fueling starts at and power levels. IMO the TST is a better unit, I would keep it and add a VA or a DD TTPM.

Piggyback it!!

There are several users on this site with the EZ stacked with TSTPM3.

Banshee, DarrelB and Rob Thamos come to mind.

It will make a difference on the low end.

Can you say SMOKE!?!?!

thinking about Power Edge EZ

Ok now here’s the question when you piggy back the Power Max 3 and Power Edge EZ the Power Edge EZ plugs into the Cummins port and has another plug for the map sensor and so does the Power Max 3, how do you hook it up? Do you plug the Power Edge EZ into the map sensor and use that or keep the power max 3 plugged in and leave the map sensor wires to the EZ off or do you have to tap the wires from the EZ into the map sensor wires with the power max 3 two?

can you use a Power Edge EZ Pulse???

I would love to see a cloud of black smoke from this thing:--)

Proturbo,

There is no splicing.

If I remember correctly, plug the PM3 MAP sensor connection into the Map sensor first, then Plug the EZ MAP connection to the female of the PM3, then wiring harness connection to the female of the EZ.

And of course the Data link from the EZ to the Data link on the engine.

I havent done this in a while, so someone correct me if Im wrong here!

timing

does anyone else have a input to hooking up two box's like hows it done?? just want to make sure thats all... .

Buy a Van Aaken. It is softer on the timing and does not need a boost signal. That is my best suggestion.

If you are stuck on the EZ you tap the boost signal to the TST FIRST, EZ second. The EZ only needs to see stock boost levels to work properly, which is what the TST is sending back to the ECM anyway. You have to hook up the TST right to the MAP sensor, EZ to the TST, EZ to the harness.
