Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Timing Cover Gasket

I need the part number and the crank seal part number too. (and prices if handy) I'm gonna nail the kdp home while the truck is down.



I'm gonna look for Joe's instructions but I may need a resend on them. Any tips on pulling the fan? Anything else I need to know/do? Belts and hoses are all fairly new so they should be good.



Ready to add a line to the signature.

While you got it open remove and locktite every case bolt you can get your hands on since Cummins didn't start using loctite 'til 97. Also tighten ALL the bolts you can reach in there.



If you're good with RTV you might skip the cover gasket. If I had to do it again that's what I'd do. Don't think it's that terribly necessary.



The crank seal can be a bugger, the little plastic tool helps. Be sure and pop the seal in while the cover is off and be sure the crank snout is clean and dry, use no lube whatsoever.

I used the "kit" from TST. Not too pricey and worth every penny if only for the EXPLICIT instructions; explains how to deal with the fan/radiator, etc. Put in a new water pump while I was in there-about 60 bux from NAPA; saved the old one for a spare. Don't really need a new gasket as RTV works just fine. Did mine about 15K miles ago and is dry as a bone today. Sorry I can't say that about my left rear axle seal .

A77890. cnh/case-ih part number for front seal/sleeve kit price $55, i'll look up the front cover part #.



fan nut is left hand thread.



also, when you are ready to reinstall front seal, either loosen all front cover bolts, to allow front seal to position itself(i had to learn the hard way) or just install the seal in the cover and place over crank, and bolt up, much easier.
