Has anyone replace the timing gear case themselves? The KDP let loose on mine about a year ago and I'm getting tired of the leaking oil. I have decent shop skills. (Work on most farm equipment myself) Could I do this myself or is there a good shop in IN around Columbus that could do it? thanks in advance, alonzo

timing cover

:( I am sure that I saw a post ststing that you must pull the motor to change the inner timing cover because the front end doesn't come apart like the 2nd gen. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Tim

Not sure but I think you can pull the cam after removing intercooler and radiator , and AC condenser. Of course youhave to remove the rockers and pushrods. TST Products is in Columbus, IN, 342-6741. They may have the cam removal tools. That is the biggest hassle for the home mechanic. You could make the stuff yourself from 1/2 inch wooden dowel pin pieces, with a slit cut 3/4 inch deep on the end and the end chamferred so it can be driven into each lifter. Hold the pins up with clothes pins, and shove in a 2. 5 foot or longer piece of 2" exhaust pipe to replace the cam while doing the gear case change (in case a lifter tries to drop).

I've done it 3 times now, while doing cam r&r and its a bit of a hassel but you must cut the middle support between rad and intercooler 1st as the cam gear won't clear. Just weld it up after install.
