Just finished replacing injector pump and installed a fass system now I have a major oil leak that appears to be coming from the cover on front of motor by the injector pump and vacuum pump. Has this happen to anyone? Can I replace just the gasket itself? Doesn't look like an easy job!

Well it's doesn't appear to be coming from the VP44. The vac. pump is totally dry. I have to let it idle at 2000 rpm to see it leaking and looks like right where the manufacturing tag is. I drove about 35 miles and lost a quart of oil.

If you've suffered the KDP, let me know. I have an extra case laying about that I wouldn't mind parting with. Take a look and let us know.

What years are effected with the dreaded KDP  ? My truck was built 8-99. Is the only way to find out is to tear her apart?

Some time in '00 the improved cover was implimented. But Cummins doesn't know (or won't tell) which covers have or have not had the improved cover installed. Sorry. But, you can see if your cover failed by removing the idler pulley (after removing the belt). You'll know for sure if you cracked the cover once you look at it.

First things first, make sure all the cover bolts and the 15mm mounting bolts for the VP are tight

Did that area around both pumps dry as can be. The oil is seeping right at the cover and case meet where the VP44 is located. Isn't most KDP located on the right side?

Sounds like it's probably just the cover leakin then, the pump gear access cover is tight, right? (is that the fill tube on an ISB pickup? LOL, I work on ISBs every day and I am not sure) it needs to spin 180 degrees plus to lock down.

If it is the cover, it could just be a poor seal or it could be a cracked sheet metal cover. The covers do crack occasionally, I've replaced a few in the past month at work. Otherwise, if it just needs resealed, it's not that bad of a job.

You have to pull the shroud and the fan hub, and the balancer. Then unbolt the cover and slide it over the crank. Might as well put a crank seal in too while it's apart.

I had my VP44 replaced at a dealer and now my cover leaks some. First step is snugging all the cover bolts? Have to take off the S'belt I would assume. 10mm bolts?, they look sort of small.

Hard to put the crank seal in? Have to get that at my local Freightliner shop (Cummins parts outlet).

Yeah I checked all the bolts on cover their tight. Ran the engine awhile @ about 2000 rpm and it looks like just the seal sprung a leak. (I hope )I got it half apart tonight went ahead and pulled radiator to clean. I'm lucky Cummins parts warehouse only 2 mi. from the house. Should I change anything else while I got it apart? Thanks for the help!
