Archived Timing help.

I slipped the timing. Right now i have to hold my foot down on the throttle to even get it to start. Putting out large amounts of white smoke. Running really quiet,so does that tell me that its advanced or retarded. the engine wont idle.

Sounds retarded to me. There is a way you can check your timing via the spillport at line #1 on the pump. Since the 2nd Gen stuff isnt my forte, I wont want to try to lead you in the wrong direction.



You may or may not be aware of this, but your situation apparently isnt uncommon in 2nd Gen trucks.

Fixed.

The timing was WWAAAAAAAYYYY advanced. I worked it back slowly and finally got close to my ear knowing what it should sound like. Then I went a few more fractions of an inch to get it right. I know exactly what the engine sounds like on 18* timing well pretty close. Its very strong now and the exhaust smells perfect. i got lucky with this one. once I get my tools back and new DV's I am going to reset everything. Oo. Thanks for the interest.
