Is it possible to generate a knocking or rattling noise because of a timing adjustment; ie too far advanced or retarded?

The reason I ask this is I have a knock that is rpm and lead foot related. It comes on above 2000 rpm and gets worse with more fuel. I adjusted my plate and AFC back to full forward from near stock and that shifted when I hear this knocking noise. When things were in near stock position, the noise came at a lower rpm ~1900 and was louder than when things are full foward.

Any ideas?

I just adjusted the valves and checked for exhaust leaks. The valves were not too far out and I couldn't find any exhaust leaks. Any ideas?

Is it possible that with too much timing and not enough fuel that the pistons are rattling in the bores?

Joe D. or Jim Fulmer, do you guys have any idea? I'd hate to ruin something if it is preventable.

Thanks,

Aaron
