Timing on a gasser?

Help! I took the distributer out of my new (to me) '95 1500 with a 5. 2 to remove the screw for the cap. Corroded in of coarse, now I know why it wasn't changed lately!

When I put it back in, I saw the sticker said "timing set at factory, see service manual". Does any one know what the timing should be set at? And where the tab is? I didn't see a timing tab near the balancer. Any help would be appreciated,TIA, Pete.

OK, found the timing marks! They were buried under crud. If anybody can find specs for me, I'd be thankful,

Do it by feel, until you can find the numbers. I'm usually within a few degrees doing it by feel. Call up autozone, I bet it's in their computer.

Timing should be computer controlled on that model. The distributor actually times the fuel injectors. There is a fuel sync meter or something I think. At least I think that is how it was on my '98, which is pretty similar to a '95

The distributor must control spark, it is a regular distributor, it doesn't have coil packs. When you turn it it changes rotor to cap timing.

Doesn't need coil packs to do that.

As far as I remember timing is actually controlled by the Crank position sensor, which is on the transmission bellhousing. I remember people advancing timing by elongating the hole it is positioned in and moving it to affect the timing

Yeah, I see what you mean. I got it back together and it started right up. Then I put my timing lite on it and turned the dist. , no difference until it died, and no mark lined up on the timing marks. Too weird for me, I'm used to the older ones.
