Can someone help me find it or where to look for it ?? I was looking the other day and it must be hiding behind something because I cant seem to find it . THANKS (Is it easier to see it from under the truck???)

Look under

From under the truck is the easiest for me to find the dowell pin. It is under the P-Pump. You have to push your hand up between the injection pump and the block. Get a light and look up from under the truck, it is black plastic and a pain in the hiney to reach , but it is there. Remember if you push it in to pull it back out, it would be nasty if you broke something inside, because you forgot to pull the pin back out !

How do reach that thing!! I can see it and I have little hands, but I still can't squeeze my hand up there to reach it. Do I have to remove / loosen some hoses?

Lay your body over the radiator and reach your right arm down between the pump and power steering, and you should be able to get some fingers on it. You can't rotate your hand to get a real firm grip on it, but you'll figure it out.

I assume you were looking at it from the bottom? Yea, I think that would be quite difficult.

Thanks Strick-9,

That did the trick. I'm trying to adjust my timing using the Miller dial indicator and I'm running into a few more problems. In the instructions it says to remove the copper delivery valve washer using a pick. I didn't find a copper delivery valve washer. Is that because it's a California truck? I bought a new washer from the dealer. It cost me almost $20. 00:( Also the instructions say to install the dial indicator adapter finger tight and then install the dial indicator into the adapter and position it to read between 7. 0 and 9. 0 mm while engine is at TDC. How do I do that? No matter what I do with the dial indicator (push it up and down in the adapter I'm guessing?), it won't move from 0. 0 mm. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Just to add a little more info, I pulled the dial indicator adapter back out of the pump and put the dial indicator all the way into the adaptor. The dial indicator shaft doesn't even stick out beyond the adaptor. Isn't it supposed to? I'm guessing that's how it works by riding up and down as you rotate the pump? Did maybe Miller send me the wrong dial indicator? Or am I missing something?
