Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Timing pin

Thank's for the help guy's, I guess I have a job ahead of me,maybe I'll get my wife out there she has smaller hands ,I can barely get mine in there

timing pin removal

1. remove the driv. side battery, remove the charge air intake pipe going to the intake, block off the lower end innercooler to keep the FOD out.



2. Some remove the vacuum pump and ps pump as an assy. Then you have plenty of room.



3. Try skipping step two, find a small flat bit screw driver and pry out the star washer. Keep a pencil magnet handy or it will disappear.



4. Find some small needle nose vise grips and pull the broken timing pin out of the holder.



5. Find a 3/8 drive 1/2 deep socket or maybe the 7/16" You will notice the socket's od is just smaller than the toothed washer.



6. Take the toothed washer and place it in a bench vise and gently bend the teeth inward some so the washer is concave rather than flat.



Place a new oiled o-ring on the new timing pin after assuring the old pin has the tip on it if not follow Don M's advice.



7. Reinsert the timing pin.



8. Grab the washer and the socket. Center the washer and start it with the fingers or the small screwdriver.



If you got to western making a concave the washer will be too loose, not to worry. Lay the washer on the anvil of the vise and tap it with a hammer to flatten it a little. A couple of trys of this will work. .



Now once the washer is started use the socket against your palm to work it into the recess at least a 1/16 or when gently retracting the timing pin it does not dislodge the washer.

broken timing pin

Got to love these trucks. There is a lock ring about 1/8 1inch in . The lock ring is about the size of a penny with a hole in the center and it has a dome shape to it. Just stick a small screwdriver through the hole and pry out. Hope this helps

Just finished timing and breaking the timing pin off. Tried for two hours to get the piece of pin out of the gear. Asked the wife to try to get it, small hands long finger nails two minutes and the broken piece was out. I LOVE MY WIFE!!!
