Ok made the mistake of telling my girlfriend I was possibly having some work done on the truck. :-{}

Anyways she told her dad who's been a shadetree mechanic all his life, and has worked on everything imaginable.

Well when she told him that I was going to have the timing advanced he was like "it'll make it run hotter, but diesel's are supposed to run hotter. "

Well now the only way to convince her about it is to post here since she hear's so much about TDR anyways.

So go ahead guys let me hear it and prove her wrong that it won't hurt my Cummins to advance the timing to 15. 5 degrees.

Thank you and goodnight.

NO PROBLEM

Heck I had mine at 28 degrees for awhile and didn't know it till I blew a head gasket. (Bad Shop) Everything else was fine, still had crosshatching on the cylinders at 170k. I didn't even blow the head gasket that bad just blowing compression into the coolant. Good thing with higher timing egts go down. ie. Since I had tiiming set at 15. 5 egts have gone up and less power. Oh well here come 370's and 16cm housing.

Shane

P. S. Tell her not to worry, just gives you more power for those pesky imports.

More power and better mileage, this is one of those things that should have already been done just don't get greedy 15. 5 -16. 0 is just right.

Jim

Emissions will come up a little bit, but there will be no adverse effects on the engine's performance or longevity. As stated already, benifits include lower egt's and higher mpg.

Go for it!

Wes

I bumped mine from 12. 5 (stock) to 15. 25 (couldnt get it to stay right at 15. 5) and I havent really noticed any hotter EGT's or coolent temp and the truck runs smoother now and starts better and I am getting a bit better fuel mileage (1-2 MPG) ..... its not advancing the timing when they come from the factory severly retarded!!! ;) :D

Jim

17 ?

Like I said mine was at over 8mm lift on a 215 pump, so its way off the chart around 28 deg. I think. Held up okay until the head gasket. Dynoed like that at 332 and 793, lots of torque.

Shane

16. 5° here..... no ill problems for over 10k miles - just better performance and economy.

I've put probably 8 trucks at 16. 5° and everybody loves it... .

Matt

Your need to advance fuel timing depends on how much fuel you are going to pour down her. I run my truck at 18 degrees and know of several others that run the same. And with my application it runs about 100 degrees cooler pre-turbo.
