Felix. .

If you haven't studded the head yet I wouldn't go more than 16. 5 degrees with your truck, unless your in the mood for a headgasket job. Let me know how you make out with it..... Andy

mfelix,

Make sure that the "TDC" you have is the "TDC" for #1 cylinder injection, not 180* off.

When you KNOW that #1 is at "TDC" for injection you will see how much lift you do have in the pump. Keep barring the engine over in normal engine rotation until the reading on the dial indicator is where you want it. Loosen (but do not remove) the pump nut and pop the gear loose, then loosen the nut more so there is no drag to turn the pump. Turn the engine backwards until it passes "TDC" by about an inch. Tighten the pump gear nut to 40 ft lbs or so. Bar engine over opposite of normal rotation until dial indicator quits moving, reset to "0" if needed. Bar engine over in normal direction of rotation until you reach "TDC" and check the dial indicator reading which should be close (unless the pump moved when you popped the gear loose). At this point you should be able to fine tune it with no problem. There is a chart on Piers site that shows . 1mm plunger lift = . 5* timing.

Good luck and have fun when you are done!

Godspeed,
