timing tool

Where is the best place to buy the timing tool that goes on the VE injection pump and how much should I expect to pay for one. I need one so that i can adjust the timing on Ol' Blue.

Big Don, I bought mine @ Cummins. Cost me $175 but that was years ago. Snap-On was more, but I can't remember how much more.

What is contained in the kit?? I have got a cost of $160 from Snap-on for the actual timing tool. Which is just a dial indicator that can be attached to the pump.

Kent-Moore tools sells the tach-n-time. It's the best one out there. No false readings. Just find TDC and check your timing. You can even adjust the timing with the engine running.

A little bit of information that might make it easier for you to find the timing gauge tool. This tool is common to VW,Audi,Volvo, and others that use the VE pump.

As a matter of fact, there was one on Ebay a couple of weeks ago listed under VW Diesel. I bid on it, but when the price got to $50. 00 I dropped out since I have several suitable dial indicators. The other parts of the kit consist of an extension tube that screws into the pump and mounts the dial indicator and an extension rod that fits inside the tube and operates the dial indicator. I can make these pieces very easily, and could not justify paying the price for the kit. I seem to remember that it sold for around $65. 00.

The Snap On kit is #YA8331.

I have two uses for this tool as it also works on my Volvo diesel car.

92 D250 Auto Trans-Currently stock except for TCI special torque convertor. Now adding 16cm turbo housing, complete 4" exhaust, tachometer, pyrometer, and transmission temperature gauge. Injectors in the near future.
Also have 1984 Volvo D260 with inline 6 diesel made by Volkswagen.
