Pulse detector
I've been using a Snap-On MT-257 Pulse Detector since it came out 15+ yrs. ago. Really works good w/ degreable timining light. Just need a TDC mark on VB or flywheel. Make sure you emery off the paint on the inj. line next to inj. I use set timing on my engine and got strong accurate signals, then used on customers truck, same year and everything, couldn't get acccurate signal for dogs--t. I even took the clamps off inj. lines thinking pulse is transferring from one line to next, didn,t make any diff. I like the degreeable timing light, digital w/ tach, cause when I get accurate tach RPM as dash tach I will get good timing signal. Some of the engines I couldn't get good signal the inj. weren't cracking at the right. I've got to check my customers inj. when he brings it back. If the inj. don't chatter or squeal strong you won't get a good pulse to trigger timing light. Cat PC engines that have lower pressure inj. systems I have hard time getting good pulse until new nozzles are put in. Good luck with the new toy.
