I getting white smoke after starting for a few miles so i am going to set timing up a little more. Will advancing timing increase idle speed any? Also can a bad lift pump cause white-blue smoke?

The lift pump could cause it if it's not working (it becomes a restriction?) or if it is letting air into the system. Any other breaks/leaks that cause air to enter will create the same effect. Did the problem begin suddenly? Mine smoked blue/white when started cold when I got it, but it was because the timing was never advanced when the POD injectors were put in.

Mine has smoked like this for years and got a little worse when i put in pw injectors. Its especially noticable when cold and sometimes at wide open throttle.

i was getting some smoke to after installing a set of bosch 190's. . i had the pump timing advanced yesterday to 17' deg. still alittle smoke when i first drive off, but its gone in about a block... . with the timing advanced now the truck really has alot more get up and go... ... now the test going to tow my 5th wheel this weekend... ... .

The white smoke you see while it's warming up is due to the KSB solenoid, which advances timing about 5 degrees when your engine is cold - not to worry - unless it does not go away. The last pump I advanced the timing on, the idle dropped slightly. If you advance the timing don't get on it too hard when it's cold - there is an "o" ring on the back side of the pump you can blow out under too much advance - advance increases internal pump pressure. The pump has to come out to replace it.
