Can someone please tell me which way to turn the pump to advance the timming. It seems that over time my pump won't stay in position. This time I am going to make a dowel pin to slide in the slot next to the pump bolts so it cant back out. I have had the timing set two times and each time after a few thousand miles it slips back.

Should be up towards the top of the engine. Normally you would want to make a scribe line on pump and mounting suface to mark were your present setting is as a referance point to return to if needed. Barring your situation were you feel the pump has slipped and possibly not knowing by how much,I would say push the pump towards the top of engine just so the scribe lines are askew but still touching. In your case, since your stating point is unknown because of slippage , you may need to go through formal timing procedure with dial in gauge, setting off of top dead center .

Thanks, I think I will just try moving it first but I always mark things before I adjust them. I got a pryro and boost gauge so I should be able to tell if I go to far. Seat of pants mechanic here.
