Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) timing?

What should i expect to pay to have my truck timed and should i go 15. 5 or 16 degrees?Thanks Jason

If you can find someone who is not trying to make a living at it, $50 to $100 seems to be typical (a "donation" to help him recover the cost of the tool). Many will do it just for the fun. I've heard of a couple of people pay $200 or more at a shop. I think that's way too much, personally, but then, I'm not trying to make a living at it.

i have a timing kit in west palm i have everthing just havn't done it on my truck i will be happy to help you if you want pm me i live in west palm i haven't timed a truck yet but i did have a kdp failure and i fixed it my self. didn't have timing kit so someone else did that and it isn't right i think it slipped the next day. so that's why i have kit

Just a little heads-up - I believe your truck is like mine in that it has the 215 pump. I have found that these pumps are more difficult to time than the smaller HP pumps. The reason is, the pump cam is so steep and the force of the plunger on the cam so strong, that when you get it rotated up to where you want it (above about 15. 0*), and then pop the gear to roll the engine back to TDC, the pump jumps back (retards) significantly (1 to 2 mm in my experience). If this happens, you have to devise a different approach to setting the timing.

For your fueling, you could probably get away with 18-20* of timing. It will wake your @$$ UP man. You discover a whole new meaning to "top end". Most guys should only want an hour's worth of labor to set it. Let us know what you come out to, don't listen to the nay-sayers who say to go 15-16* If you are going to get some timing, get some timingOo.

do a search------- and then make up your own mind. depends on how you use your truck. if you race, timing is usually higher, and harder on the engine, more EGT's and more smoke. it's your choice. do the search.
