Tint Front Door Glass

I have a problem with the sun visor that doesn't cover far enough back and I get blinded by the sun when it's to my left. A dark tint, done this way, would be legal. It probably would look like the window is open all the time though.

Whether or not it would be legal might depend on how dark it was. For example, in CA, something on the side windows would have to have a "minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent" (CVC 26708 (d) (1) ), among other things.

Maybe I'm way off base here, but i thought that the lower the % the darker the tint. At least that is what the Custom Car Care shop that i go to told me. I looked at samples of tint today( 5%, 15%, 20%, 35%, and 50%). Personaly, I like the 20% because the 35% is just a little too light. I'll probably end up going with the 35% because I don't want to take a chance on getting pulled over. It's only gonna cost me $50 to do both front windows. Again, please correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks.

The lower the percent of what?



In the case of the California Vehicle Code quoted by DonS, the percentage refers to the light TRANSMITTED.

I was saying the the % refers to how much light is let through the tint. If it was a 5% transmittance then it would be very dark. If it was a 50%, it would be VERY light.
