Hey Folks



I found this product and thought it was a great idea and figured I would see what you all thought. It is an hour meter/tach combo and the price seems pretty fair to boot. Let me know what you think.

Anyone know the size of the injector lines for the first gen so I don't have to break out my dial caliper?

On my 89 the fuel lines measured at 6 MM, I didn't measure my 92 so I'm not sure if all Gen 1's use the same size or not.



If you get one let me know how it works out..... the only way I could see to make it better would be if it was round and sized to fit a normal 2 1/16 gage mount.

Looks like you get a lot for the low price. I like the max RPM, service timers, and hourmeter features. If anyone tries one, please give us a report.

I just measured the fuel lines on my 91. They measured 6. 5 mm ... or could be 1/4 inch.

Anybody know if these are supposed to be metric or English size?

Update. After filling out my name address and phone # online (no credit card was asked for), a gentleman called me at work, asked me the application (told him '91 Dogge Cummins) and he said, "I have one outside, I believe it's 1/4 inch, I'll make up a kit and send it to you". When asked about payment he said "The invoice will be with the Tach, send us a check". I'm impressed already.

Sounds good. I'm interested as I need to buy a tach and monut it somewhere.

I'm interested in your opinion on it's operation and how easy it is to read while driving.

Tiny Tach installed

Got my tach last week. It had a 1/4" "transducer" which seems to fit the fuel line ok. Mounted it with velcro tabs on the face of the dashboard for now. Works great! Gives a variety of "time" readings along with RPM. Response time is slower than a regular tach but more than acceptable for someone who's run without a tach for a year and needed somthing fast-n-now. The only shortcoming is no internal light. You can't see it at night unless you get a little aux. light:{ But... no complaints for $65 eh! I've spent more and got less. They sent it to me after I ordered it on-line... Invoice was attached to the box. Feel's like a hand-shake deal. I like it! I'll post a "pic" when TDR gets the server sorted out.

I installed mine about a week ago also, velcroed to the dash after I cut a small notch in the instument bezel for the wiring. I placed mine flush between the lower portion of the speedo and oil pressure clusters. I'm with AxeKicker, the unit seems to be excellent quality, sealed, even the wiring harness is covered and sealed. My only complaints would be no back lighting (as Axekicker said) and also the unit has a internal battery that stores the run time information. According to the instructions, this battery is good for 5 years, but since the unit is sealed, there is no way to replace the internal battery. I assume after 5 years you will have a tach, but no run time meter (no way to retain the internal time counter memory). All in all, I'm impressed. With the exceptions above, I would recommend this to anyone needing a tach.

Lighted Tiny Tach

I emailed the Tiny Tach guys and asked them what options we had if we wanted an illuminated tach. His response is posted below. Sounds like light is available. I'm gonna consider it. I wish all suppliers were as quick to respond. The feedback came within two hours.

Dear Boris,



We have a fiber optic system that lights the present tach with a red light that shines through the display. The system is not in production, but with lead times of 2-3 wks can be made, cost is $20 more.

In your opinion would you prefer a dial tach?

Is this tach a pia to read due to the numbers constantly changing?

Any thoughts?

I personally prefer analog (dial) everything

For just driving around and wanting to know your RPM's or setting the idle (which is what I got this for) and for displaying hours of operation, this tach is more than adequete.

Is a $200 dollar analog tach better? Sure. It's bigger, backlighted and has instantaneous response (you also have to find a place to put it ). But the TinyTach unit does work, and it's a run time meter to boot . For the money and ease of installation, it's hard to beat.

Same here... Dials-over-Digits. If I ever get my hands on a OEM factory tach I'll put it in... (that would be my first choice) but till then this'n will do fine. Now... I gotta go call a man about a fiber-optic light-wire night-vision thingey.

Hey Tex-Turbo... Did you connect your "red" wire to a constant "hot" battery source or a "switched" source? And... does your display stay on-or-off when you turn your ignition key "off".

Axekicker, I attached mine to the switched accesory fuse on the fuse box (it was close, so why not). The display goes off when the key is turned off.

OK... I'll bite. I've got the pics of my TinyTach but can't figure out how to post them. (Musta been that cycle wreck without a helmet on that caused all these problems... all I hear is ringin' in my head... and diesel sounds in my ears)
