Tips on installation of the Mass Diesel transmission line.

Installing it this weekend for the temp probe.

Anyone have any tips on installation and any tools needed?

I did it two weeks ago. I am a far cry from a mechanic, but found it very easy to do. I think it was a 7/8 and a 3/4 inch wrench is all you need to do it. Don't use any tape or dope. It only took 10 minutes. Spread some plastic under the transmission, cover the starter with plastic. I lost less than a quart of ATF4.

The only other thing I can think of is to be sure to have the nuts tightened where they fit into the "T" (where the probe attaches). I had to go back under to fix a leak there.

It looks real tight, where the line goes into the transmission.

Any tips on getting to the bolts?

Pics would be appreciated... I got my line a week ago and just got to the dealer today to get some ATF4. Plan on doing the install this weekend if the weather is nice.

Ok, have it installed.



But I seem to have a small leak up near the sensor area. It only leaks when I am on the road and the pressure is the greatest.

How tight do you make the hose fittings to the blue sensor connection? I don't want to overtighten it and crack the line.

I have noticed a similar minor leak inthe same area. Worth a call to Mass Diesel to ask them how to proceed.

any tips...

on removing the fitting next to the trans oil pan? It was pretty tight and there was not much room to get a wrench in there. Didn't have the open ended wrenches in 3/4 and 7/8, so getting those tonight and gonna try again... .

I found it easier with a small cresent wrench on that fitting.

Make sure you use some type of pipe thread putty on the fittings. If not, they are a ***** to get them all sealed.

Leaks

Many people overtighten this kind of compression fitting which distorts the nuts and normally this is where the leaks occur. The sealing surface is the tube to fitting interface; the nuts just maintain these in intimate contact. I like to say that snug is good but star torque is bad. My $0. 02. Ken Irwin

O No, The Mass is the best inline sensor I have seen and it still can leak,The position that some are installed have been hit with road debris and leak,When you rebuild transmissions some times you don"t get it right on the first try or a defect in the parts, than you have to remove the trans again and work around the inline sensor than it starts to leak on the second attempt and you have to replace the line ,the fittings on some of the inline sensors are not design to be remove and re-install more than a couple of times before they start to leak.
