Oh yeah, and how about Boerne? It's kinda like when I went to California when I was young. I was looking for San Joaquain and I pronounced it San Jo-Kain. Someone told me "no, it's San Waukein, you change the J to W on some of the Spanish names". Well after leaving San Joaquain, I headed for San Jose, you guessed it, I ask for San Jose, again I was corrected an told that it is pronounced San Hosea. They said in some Spanish names, you change the J to H and that I would catch on after I had been there for a while. I told them I didn't think that would be necessary since I would be going back to Texas in Hune or Huly.

You think Houston is bad, try El Paso. That place sucks. I grew up about 200 miles east of El Paso, FT Davis to be exact and always hated to go to El Paso. you never knew if your truck would still be there when you came out of the store:eek:

The first time I drove in Houston I was pulling our 26' Featherlite horse trailer with horses in it:eek: NOT fun:{

Used to love riding down the Gulf Freeway back in the 70's. There was a billboard sign that said "Scarsdale- where the air is fresh. " If you left your eyes on the sign the next thing you would see was Lowe Chemical off in the distance. There was an area next to it we used to drive across in Jeeps and motorcycles covered by giant piles of dirt we called "Sagemont Hills" This was later developed into a housing tract only to become one of the most expensive Superfund toxic waste clean-ups in the nation.

Know right where that is Scot!!!!! It was renamed the Brio Site. They built a neighborhood that backed up to it, and ended up condeming the whole place. There was a school in the middle of the neighborhood. The entire development was bulldozed. I believe that there is still litigation going on over everything. The guy who owned the property and allowed the dumping filed bankruptcy but lives in a several million dollar home in Friendswood, several miles away.

They are almost completely thru with the soil and well remediation. they will be widening the road that runs by it very soon.

Just went to Houston this weekend. Whats up with the stupid 55 MPH?? I heard this was going to happen, but I didnt think it was going to be as big of an area. Half the cars are doing 55, and the other half are ignoring it. Guess what group I am in... :rolleyes:

Are they going to change it back to 70 anytime soon?

Actually I grew up in Friendswood (home of the fighting earthworms). :D The then mayor was the guy who owned the chemical plant.

Being an Okie living in Texas for 13 years, I even say El Dorado and Sequin correctly. However, during our vacation trips to visit my family in Oklahoma, I crack up listening to my wife and kids try to pronounce the following:

Durant, Kiowa, Tishomingo, Okmulgee, Talequah, Eufaula, Bokoshe, Pushmataha, Chouteau and my favorite: Gotebo :D
