I've tried numerous tires on CTD's and my preference is the BFG AT KO for all round use. If high mileage and quiet are the criteria I would choose one of the Michelin tires. Several tires, Cooper and Dunlop come to mind, seem to have softer sidewalls and don't corner as well in larger sizes such as 285/75-16. The ride with BFG AT is less harsh then a Michelin. Good luck!

Just as a friendly FYI, Firestone does not make Bridgestone. Bridgestone OWNS Firestone. That is not to say that I am in support of Firestones tires, but do not condem the Japanese owner for making bad tires as well.

The process of overseas tire companies buying up American tire companies has been going on for the past decade. Michelin (France) bought Uniroyal-Goodrich, Pirelli (Italy) bought Armstrong, Continental (Germany) bought General, and the list goes on. The USA has a huge market for tires, and it's cheaper for the overseas companies to buy American manufacturers to market their product.

Just my $. 02, and I am in no way affiliated with anyone or being paid to voice my opinion.

By the way, nobody mentioned Kelly-Springfield. They are the oldest USA tire manufacturer, a sister company of GoodYear, and I feel they make a great tire in their Safari line (AWR or MSR). Check them out!

My dad has the Safari MSR in 285-75x16 on his F-250 and they are very agressive and quiet running. They're wearing some on it, but I think they would do pretty well on my Ram as it's much better on tires than that Ford.

I'd like to give them a try. The price was not bad either - around $125 each I recall.

I almost bought the MSR's when I bought the AWR's, but they didn't have either the 255/85 or 285/75 sizes in stock. But the AWR's have been quiet, balanced well, and had good snow traction last winter. I got the set for about $425 mounted and balanced which makes it that much better! :D

Just picked up the Firestone Steeltex AT's for 120 apiece. Tread looks aggressive enough, quiet, e rated, promised wear about 50,000 miles. I like them.

come on... you know you want the 325/60/18... :D :D :D

Yeah, why would I even think of putting anything smaller than that on a 4x2 truck???

Jack, Andy Perrault is running those on his rig and said he likes them fine! All you have to do is get used to them taking a few moments to catch up with the rest of the truck anytime you change lanes ;)

Well Guys... I ended up getting the BFG AT's. They weren't too bad, about $155 each.

So far I don't have any opinion on them. I have noticed that they are quite loud while turning and as far as stop light take offs, they have slowed the take off down a bit. Anyone else notice this?

Kev,

If you stuck with the same size the off the line response should be the same. I'm sure the diameter is a tiny bit different as you replaced worn tires with new ones, but I can't imagine it would even be noticable while driving. Apparently that is not the case.

Cooker... I did end up staying with the same tire size and I think I figured out the problem.

The wife and I went to go get something to eat last night and my truck wouldn't start. I put a battery charger on my truck to see if the batteries were the problem and they were.

Some how the OEM batteries are not holding a charge... so I bet that is why it seemed like I was seeing a lack of power. Thanks for the info though... I realy appreciate it.
