Tire Chains for 315/75R16 tires

Has anyone purchased a set of chains, or cable chains for 315/75R16 tires? I am thinking about getting a set. How much did the set of four cost... . I am expecting it to be close to $350. How well do they work? What type did you get?

Where do you plan on going with those chains?

You must be planning to go into some SERIOUS snow country to need to spend $$$ for front & rear chains on a 4x4! I have owned several 4x4's and have NEVER had to chain up. I just pop it in 4 and take it slow! Save that $350 and use it for other bombs..... hehe

Good to see some good Northwesterners here. I went to Les Schwab the other day. I still have the stock 265s on and the heaviest duty grade chain they have is $119 set. Going to pick them up today. 4x4 or no 4x4, the ticket for not carrying chains is pretty steep. Good thing about Schwab... if you don't use them, you can take them back for a full refund after snow season.

snow wheeling is a blast..... once the snow hits the bumper... . it is usually time to chain up!

Am leaving this fri morning on a trip to eastern Oregon and did some research and found a set made by security chain company

www.scc-chain.com part # 2226 in there quic grip line for 71. 99 a pair (they are listed for 35/12. 5/15) which is the same as our 315's got them from 4wheel parts wholesale and i am picking them up this afternoon

Murrayhill area and work at that big footwear company. There are a few reasons I am going to buy my chains at Schwab. I bought the ones for my full size Bronco at Costco $59. For my baby though, it's a different story. I know the guy at the Schwab Walker Road, and know they will stand by those chains if anything should happen. Our beasts weigh quite a bit... tipped ~7200 at the scales last time I was in (unloaded in the bed)

Has anyone used the cable type chains... I know they are about useless in the ice, but I do not have that much room between the tire and fender well up front.

WIMP! When I was doing snow runs in Grand Cherokee, the guys who chained up were harassed, BIG TIME! The other trucks were Jeeps, Bronco's, Toyotas, etc. We didn't want to dig into the snow, we wanted to float across the top. What PSI do you run when in the snow (you DO air down, right?) With a big, heavy Cummins, I'm guessing 5 PSI front and 6 PSI rear.....

I've always heard air UP and run narrower tires in the snow. When the snow gets up over your bumper it's a lot more fun to break out the snowmobile...

I am first time dually owner, I frequently travel I-5 over the grapevine into LA to see my Dad at the va hospital, it snows up there at times during the winter sometimes requiring chains, my question is how many and what type? Tanks in advance

No, I'm serious! I would air down to around 8 PSI in the front and 7 PSI in the back on my Grand Cherokee. Airing down for rocks, snow or sand is the best way to get added traction. Tall and skinny doesn't really work too well for snow.



Next time you go out on any kind of trail run, try this experiment: Run a section at the pressure you would normally use. Then, air down your tires until you have nice bulge going (probably about 20 PSI in the front due to the weight of the Cummins, 15 in the rear) and try the same exact section again. Keep the same line if you can. I GUARANTEE you will have better results with your tires aired down... ... .

Brian, I was wondering the same thing. Seems to me turning the folks in So Cal loose on an icy road is a real bad idea. Seems like they usually just shut it down.

Tall and skinnie

tall and skinni work up here @7000 !but my mud ,hyway and sand tire's are low and wide. I have 315's but can only chain up the rear due to stock ground clearance (chp require's chain on drive tire's under R-3 conditions)My chain's are made by Weed which I have used for over 20 year's and have not had a failure with this brand.
