I am really confused about tires/rims. I just picked up a 2006 SLT Crew 3500 4wd long bed with the michelin tires--265/70r17. I want to replace them with a tire more suitable for off road use. I know I can use bfg t/a ko in the same size. The nitto tires have a lot of appeal, but their 265/70r17 is rated at 2535 lbs while their 295/70r17 is rated at 3195. I don't want to add a lift kit to the truck and I am concerned about the effect of the 285 or 295 size on the accuracy of the speedometer. Also, do you think there is a market for selling the factory tires? If so, what do you think would be a fair price?

Thanks.

I have larger tires when I tow, in the effect of the 285 tires but I have the 245 70 R 19. 5" tires...

I use the Superlift speedometer corrector. It has 4 wires to hook up under the hood, and then you use an adjuster on a dash-pot screw to adjust the speed of the spedometer. My bigger tires are dead on accurate.

I would also pay attention to the load range of the tire. I've heard many people on this board say that they used load range D tires and had problems with handling and some even say it causes death wobble. It's not all about the weight rating.

The dealer can change the pinion factor on your truck to correct for larger tires, but I recently read a post that said that on the '06's that this is no longer adjustable above a certain size tire.

Toyo makes an LT285/70R17 121S (33x11. 50R17) tire that is load range E. It will fit with no lift, fill out the wheel wells, and have greater off road capability than the stockers.

You're correct on the size, but the 126S is the E-rated, 10-ply tire. The 121S is the D-rated, 8-ply tire.
